Went down a rabbit hole and watched (I think) every John Waters interview I could find on Youtube and even read a few chapters of his book ‘Shock Value’ thinking that’d prepare me for one of his films. That said, nothing can prepare you for your first John Waters film.

Was lucky enough to see the new Criterion 4K restoration projected on the big screen at the Provincetown Film Festival. John Waters did a short q&a afterwards. Love this film. And the restoration is gorgeous. So much detail in the image that it was like watching the film…

An absolutely assaultive viewing experience, just relentless - every frame crammed with retina-blasting clothing and wallpaper, every face uniquely hideous. All of Waters' movies are worthwhile, but this is the one where he said it all and said it best.

I dont know how to feel. Violated, yes. Confused, yes. But also, entertained in a morbid way. Definitely not watching this again but Im a bit glad i watched it once? This was certainly a movie, and i was not expecting to see that many male members.

This is probably my new favorite John Waters movie. I love the tone he sets with the opening song, sung by Divine herself. Also, keep an eye out for Divine out of drag.
