this is just what I assume LA is like
David SimsSep 10, 2021"John Carpenter later reflected in 2015: 'Escape from L.A. is better than the first movie. Ten times better. It's got more to it. It's more mature. It's got a lot more to it. I think some people didn't like it because they felt it was a remake, not a sequel... I suppose…
comrade_yuiFeb 25, 2018Mostly decent rehash sequel with a good sense of humor about itself and some of the worst CGI I have ever seen.
Matt Singer - Jul 17, 2013
Largely an expensive rehash with way more jokes (aimed at some very soft targets -- plastic surgery! phony talent agents!) and a hot dose of fan service, all of which i am completely down for, despite the frequently dreadful CGI, the clearly backlot-y texture, and Russell's…
matt lynchOct 4, 2020EVERY MORNING I WAKE UP AND OPEN PALM SLAM A VHS INTO THE SLOT. IT’S ESCAPE FROM L.A. AND RIGHT THEN AND THERE I START DOING THE MOVES ALONGSIDE WITH THE MAIN CHARACTER, SNAKE PLISSKEN. I DO EVERY MOVE AND I DO EVERY MOVE HARD. MAKIN WHOOSHING SOUNDS WHEN I SLAM DOWN THE…
comrade_yuiFeb 4, 2026Outrageous. Pretty much an ironic reworking of Carpenter’s own film that showcases all of his great wit. A break from the original: far more tongue in cheek. An exercise in melodrama. Kurt Russell is ridiculously cool. Obviously not quite at the level of Escape from New…

"snake, i can tell your future..." "the future is now."
comrade_yuiNov 23, 2021A completely bonkers mad libs version of it's original predecessor. The barebones story template is the exact same but Carpenter, Hill and Russell pack a lot more wacky ideas into this one. Is it bad? Is it self-parody? Does it really matter? Nah, it really doesn't, because…
Christian Di LeoMay 23, 2016Only John Carpenter could say "I wanna see Kurt Russell, Pam Grier, and Steve Buscemi hang gliding at sunset into a trashed, post-apocalyptic Disneyland, guns blazing" and actually pull it off. And that is one of the many, MANY reasons why I love that man.

Kurt Russell is enough of a reason to watch any movie. However this movie is just so meh, not Snake’s fault…I mean Plissken…..NOT THIS AGAIN LOL. Hope you enjoy this more than I did
Well compared to the first it’s cartoonish, self-aware, and messy. It dials everything up to absurd. Not as tight or moody as the original, but it leans into satire so hard it somehow works. Still good though.

Loved the sets of a dystopian LA. Action was a bit corney at times but great nonetheless. Solid sequel to the original, Carpenter really knew how to raise the stakes 8.5/10
an 80’s action cheese flick that was made in 1996. it’s probably ahead of it’s time, some version of that is most likely what’s going to happen to america in 50 years

Shat on the things that made escape from New York awesome, it’s like the same film in a worse setting with worse premise and worse special effects
I loved this film, I have to say I had a lot of fun while watching it definitely very entertaining I think I prefer this one to the first films.
