Atom User Reviews for Dungeons & Dragons: Amazon Prime Early Showing
They broke the curse of the D&D movies. This one will apeal to gamers and non gamers.
Full on fun fantasy adventure. It brings all of the elements of D&D to the screen and not in a way that will make people who have never played the game feel like they are missing out. But for any of you that have played it will feel like a story put together by a great D&D Master. And Hugh Grant is amazing as the slimy guy as he always nails it whenever he is in a movie.
This movie was so action-packed and absolutely hilarious! I’ll be seeing it again when it comes out. The cast and storyline couldn’t be any better.
clearly made by lovers of the game but fun for everyone!
We all enjoyed it, from the D&D player to mom and dad!
Movie was great, but Rege Jean Page wasn’t in it enough.
Great up until CC device stopped receiving signal
Only downside is it's a little fast paced but it is necessary to have a full story in an epic world like DnD. A lot of nods and references, and amazing visuals. A lot more humor than I expected, and an awesome and diverse feeling cast that all brings their own style to the story.
Loved it. Will need closed caption at home to get all the dialog but visually it was stunning and so much fun.
A very funny enjoyable movie. Really enjoyed to visuals and interaction between characters. #chubbydragon
A excellent movie to watch even though I don’t play the game.
My group and I had a great time! We all enjoyed it!
Absolutely great for gamers and non-gamers alike! So much in the movie for the D&D players to relate to and enjoy, but not overwhelming for those that don't play. Loved it!
This is the best live-action D&D movie ever! It's clearly made by people who understand the game and the hijinks that can ensue when things go off the rails, unlike the 2000 movie or its direct-to-video sequels... Plenty of Easter Eggs for fans of D&D and the Forgotten Realms campaign setting especially. Even if you're not a D&D fan, I'd still recommend it for people wanting to watch a fantasy movie that doesn't take itself too seriously.
ok ok. as an old DND gamer, I gotta admit it was a good movie. Only a couple of issues, but good otherwise
Enjoyable. Chris Pine made a great D and D Star Lord. Good humor and special FX throughout. Owl-Bear was great.
Good show and not political. Hard to find these days.
One of the best action/ fantasy comedy I’ve seen in a long time
There were lots of nods to DnD lore. Parts of it felt like a campaign being played out. The dragon was the single best part of it. I hope it gets a sequel. I'd like to see what additional trouble this band of merry misfits can get into.
very fun movie definitely in the spirit of the game
This movie is absolutely jam packed and never not enjoyable. A great action comedy that pays proper tribute to its roots
Got to see an early screening, definitely seeing it again on opening day! Really enjoyed it, even with just surface level knowledge of D&D
Love it!
it was awesome and funny and heartfelt. would watch again
Fun for everyone - we had a mixed group of D&D fans and non, and everyone enjoyed themselves!
Absolutely LOVED this movie!! I already am planning to see it when it premieres. Thank you to Amazon for letting me see it early, and to everyone for such a fantastic movie that not only was stunning from the cast to the visual effects, but the mere fact it was PACKED with Easter eggs that were true to the Dungeons and Drangons Game. From the Original, Mazes and Monsters, to the latest edition.
Best representation of the game so far
Great film that exceeded expectations! Finally a good D & D film!
Watched with very little understanding of what D&D is - really enjoyed it! Lots of LOL moments.
great cast. boring & predictable plot.
A GREAT fun movie for everyone. Action comedy, nods to the original D&D cartoon. An enjoyable fun move. Definitely a must see
Went in thinking it was going to be an ok movie at best but came out happy I went to watch it. I recommend it when released this coming week to watch
Our whole DND group went to see it and all of us loved it! Great for DND players but also would be fun if you don’t know anything about DND!
Such a fun time at the movies. As someone who knows little to nothing about the D&D lore, I was so impressed with the level of creativity that went into designing this world, these characters, these creatures and these mcguffins. Not to mention it’s genuinely really funny.
Great from start to end. Very funny, the movie audience were are laughing and enjoying themselves
Finally a great Dungeons and Dragons movie
Really funny and entertaining. And really funny.
I expected it to be a good movie. I love Chris Pine. He brings his own goofy charm to his movies. I will see it again and buy the DVD. It's nice for it to be placed in Faerun. It excited the fan-boy in me. Anyway I loved it.
a surprise to be sure but a welcome one! A fun sword and sorcery adventure even if you know nothing about DnD. Even more enjoying for those who know and like DnD. Nice to see Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez in a good role. they can make another anthology movie in this universe, and I'll go out n see it!
awesome film!
Great action, effects, and humor !
A ball of fun. The movie works as a fantasy blockbuster all on its own and if you’ve actually played D&D you’ll wish you were in the game you are watching.
I enjoyed this movie
A lot of fun. A great way to show D&D can be fun again. Overly predictable a couple times but overall, will see it again and hopefully in 3D. Gamers, nerds ,and you other people, will enjoy it
My family really liked the movie 🍿🍿🍿🍿
Fantastic movie!!! Great for everyone! Funny, lots of action, and best of all… Heart.
haven;t seen the like in years!! Fabulous Epic adventure
Start was slow but gathered quick momentum!
Loved it. And a fantastic easter egg during the movie that was epic to see!
Had a blast plan on seeing it again
Metacritic
The film’s set pieces are built around comedy, with bits of (cleverly choreographed and directed) action and suspense to add some urgency, not the other way around.
Co-directors Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, working from a script they penned with Michael Gilio, have struck the right balance between high-stakes action, warm drama and clever comedy in a consistently engaging, mostly family-friendly romp that features some of the most spot-on casting of any film so far this year.
Honour Among Thieves could have tidied away its plot more economically, but the leisurely pacing does allow us to connect with the surprisingly fleshy characters. It is no mean feat to make something so funny from such unpromising material. It is more impressive still to end on a genuinely moving note. A welcome surprise.
