I love how the most dramatic scene in this movie is James Bond killing a spider with a shoe.
Felipe F.Nov 5, 2017Pretty cool that one of the biggest most enduring franchises of all time started off as sexy, espionage procedural B-thriller with all the energy and intensity of a vacation travelogue. Despite zoning out for stretches of this one, you can't deny they didn't come out the…
Josh LewisApr 6, 2023Been years since I saw this and I forgot how much the entire Bond movie thing is just there fully formed on their very first try

james bond faces his greatest villain yet, a white woman pretending to be chinese
eddyburbackA lot like Archer without jokes.
fithJul 24, 2020having a character say "ah, yes, that's a blood patch" paired with a close-up shot of the blood patch has to be poetic cinema at its finest

“The successful criminal brain is always superior. It has to be.” A weird side effect of getting older: I now find myself totally enraptured by great production design, and will endure any movie, no matter how terrible, if the sets and the props and the costumes are…
Matt SingerOct 3, 2021No thoughts just 60s & 70s movies production design
BananaPuddingJan 22, 2026When you learn about Benjamin Franklin as a kid he's really presented as the fun founding father. The party animal. The Michaelangelo. America's First Wit. And then you read his humor writing and it's all "Tis the prudent man who completes his chores" or "The child who…

It’s very dated. Slightly cringy lol. The chauvinism. Connery is fantastic and is very smooth. No gadgets yet. Violence was actually minimal and the fight choreography was a joke. Good dialogue and monologuing. Let’s see how the series progresses.
For an introductory start to the franchise it is honestly a good start. There are a lot of positive aspects to this films that I genuinely like. Even for a first time watch, the acting, coloring from Technicolor, set pieces and story were all wonderfully done by everyone involved. If only they…
Solid first entry. Unfortunately it felt as though it dragged on too long with far too much exposition. There was too much dialogue and a lot of it was forced for explanation. Never really followed the ‘show don’t tell’ rule which is sometimes okay but other times not so much.

probably one of the better bond plots honestly. like it was the first but I feel like it did a lot of things right. I do feel like the relationship stuff was worse than most of the other movies though. like she just spawns in. very 60s if you like that vibe
It’s finally time to watch all the Bond films, before the Craig Bond era and boy am I excited. Dr. No was a great opening to the saga and I can see why everyone loves Connery. He’s charismatic, mysterious and very Bond-esque. Can’t wait for what comes next

I’ll lump all the James Bond films up to Casino Royale into one review. I love them all and there’s very few instalments that I don’t enjoy. I hope they keep making them till the day I die, fantastic films! 13/07/2023 (Historical Review)
What a classic movie. Sean Connery as the first James Bond is great and he is such a great actor, RIP Sean Connery. The special effects might not have been very good but it’s from the early 60s so didn’t expect it to be that good.

The beginning of the super-successful franchise, this remains one of the most satisfying Bond films.
