Atom User Reviews for Downsizing
good idea, worst implementation. Nothing happens in the fipm, except a couple of jokes. Story is boring as hell.
the movie started out slow, in the middle of the movie it was slow, and the end of the movie was even slower.
two hours of my life i can't get back
This movie was great. The trailer tells you very little about what this movie is really about and it is better that way. One very special character steals the show. It starts a bit slow but stick with it and you will be greatly rewarded.
Slowest plot ever! Took almost one hour to even downsize! Wanted to leave movie early.
This movie made no sense and was extremely boring. The ending was also the worst I’ve ever seen. I would not recommend this movie.
Started interesting but ended up being terrible
The was no point to this movie
Not a movie to take the kids. Strong sexual language. It had its moments of comedy but not a very high ranking movie for me.
Very slow
wanted to see this movie because the concept looked interesting but was disappointed by how the story developed.
did not expect the nudity and vulgar swearing. far from what I expected.
Not exactly what i was expecting. I liked most of the movie, but parts of the message were a little preachy.
The plot twist that basically made this movie was adding the Vietnamese female in. Her dialogue made an otherwise so-so film a must see.
Starts out whimsical, takes a realistic turn at a pivotal point. Rest of the movie felt like a journey of self-discovery and moral choices. A dark comedy overall
This is a great story. people laughed, cried and ultimately enjoyed it from beginning to end. I loved this film.
Worse movie I have a seen in a long time. Commercials make it more funny and worth your time than what it is. Not even worth 1 star.
Awesome work
the movie was so much more than I thought, very thought provoking and makes you appreciate things.
The movie opened up many plots but did not develop them smoothly. I thought it was awkward and the ending leaves you like what the hell was the point!??
This movie is about what's really important in life; what we should seek after.
Ending was disappointing.
Excellent movie but marketed as a comedy.
good topic but got lost at the end
it was okay but it used the F-word too much
The movie was drawn out. Not enough content on the subject matter. I didnt get the feeling of being submersed into the small world.
I enjoyed it, but think it could have had a better ending.
Depressing and disappointing story yet a very interesting and creative idea.
Interesting concept but not sure who decided Long Duck Dong needed a female rebirth. Extremely distracting to the plot and too lazy of a caricature to warrant serious criticism.
About 20 min too long
fell asleep. Can't really say much about the film.
Wasn’t sure about the plot and it’s message. Felt discombobulated and direction with a solid message or point.
couldnt figure out the plot
Very disappointed Definitely enjoy the trailer more than the movie
I was hoping this would be a great movie but it wasnt. It was ok.
Not as funny as I thought it would be. Actually dozed off.
Hong Chau stole the show
I loved the concept, enjoyed the movie but HATED the ending!
awful
Just watch the trailer!
#vietnam
horrible movie
Felt a little short
It had potential to be so much more. Disappointed. Insightful on the impact humans have on the environment but slow moving.
No thanks. The plot totally sucked.
It could have been so much bigger and more exciting , the concept was good but the execution not so much.
hidden message. take care of the earth and racial harmony...
Metacritic
The movie is a surprise, the good kind, an instance of a filmmaker zigging just when you’re expecting him to zag.
The film’s ultimate message — help other people, basically — is, while useful and necessary, dramatically rather slack, and you notice with a shock that the film’s central conceit has almost entirely dropped off the table by the final third. Payne’s microcosm is so like our macrocosm that after a while he simply forgets to make the distinction.
One part relationship comedy, one part existential human drama, one part environmental warning and, regrettably, one part white-saviour myth, Alexander Payne’s Downsizing is a beautiful, confounding creation.
