As far as music biopics go, Dolly is perhaps the most visceral I've ever seen. I had no idea Dolly Parton's upbringing was so brutal.

cobMar 3, 2026gnarly, gruesome and just straight up nasty (positive) impressive practical effects & gore. such a gorgeous grimy looking film shot on 16mm. has that 70s grainy look which made the watching experience feel immersive and the film itself felt lived in. the story is basic in…

“Because it’s a movie”. This is what I have to repeatedly tell myself sometimes when characters do things so inexplicably stupid that my limited brain can’t wrap itself around it. It happens in Dolly right away. It’s all very Grindhouse. You know… gritty and brutal but you…
Digital PressApr 2, 2026so basically the plot is the same as barbarian 😭 haha

I know people are going to be harsh on this movie, but not me. I had the time of my life. I can clearly see the grindhouse vibe this film is going for, and I think it succeeds. I loved the diva Dolly! She mothered. The final girl was annoying at times, but I liked her…
hugeasmammothMar 11, 2026desperately wants to be a product of the 70s aesthetically and spiritually, but its misanthropy is entirely superficial, mistaking relentless brutality for the palpable dread of its rather obvious influences — this is to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre what Chaos was to The…
Justin LaLibertyMar 6, 2026I might need to stop watching previews, I swear. Seeing more than a few fellow horror nerds really enjoy Rod Blackhurst’s 16mm filmed, greasy backwoods slasher throwback Dolly, again let my expectations build to a preconceived level in my head that just didn’t quite sync up…

Pretty decent. Has a good cat and mouse aspect to it and the chapters within the film slowly make the film darker and more disturbing. The film is raw, dirty and an eerie watch. Very gory and stylistic. My only problem is that some characters make poor choices and
It had potential. It tried for that dirty, gritty thing and it hits on some aspects and misses on others. Lots of things that made no sense. Character backgrounds that did nothing, had no real point. Gave us no real insights into Dolly… and normally I’m ok with that, but the whole gimmick here kind…

Starts off slow, but after about 20 minutes has constant tension throughout. This reminds me of if Rob Zombie made a movie I actually liked. Very heartbreaking and has very good acting. There’s a scene in this movie that actually hit very hard for me and it was pretty rough.
Dolly is an intense film with little substance. It’s got an interesting premise with little plot; it’s very much a Texas chainsaw massacre where it’s just mayhem. This film had some great moments but definitely has seen better films come from Shudder.

Nothing special. Few good scenes. I did like the old school vibe. She had like 5 chances or more to “win.” She was very stupid. For an hour and 20 minute runtime it still dragged. Would be fun to mystery science theatre it with friends.
Very reminiscent of Texas chainsaw and Friday the 13th, really enjoyed the Dolly character but was a little slowly paced , wish maybe there were more characters for dolly to have interacted with but overall a fun watch.
