Atom User Reviews for Detroit
It's really a great movie and the acting is phenomenal. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this movie.
Once they killed the little girl I was done watching it.
I wonder how many other cities had major riots.
This is the most important film of the year.
Nice movie
Some powerful majority people play with justice!
This movie was an eye opener, one thing is true... no matter how time change ... some things remain the same... and that's just way to bad..
The story seemed to have little purpose. The high suspense scenes were well shot, but it didn't seem to give any more insight to police and race relations than what is already out there.
Confusing and incoherent in the beginning. Needs better direction.
A movie everyone should go and watch! High schoolers, college students, parents, police officers, teachers, and more. To focus on a specific event that happened in Detroit during the rioting time was educational. Most probably didn't know about this murder case. This film shines light on those victims and their story to hopefully never be forgotten.
Movies like Detroit are important for giving society a chance to think critically about key events in history
Camera moved to much we left
This was a powerful movie based on a true story. I would definitely say this is one you should add to the list of movies to see.
Tears. I cried. Very powerful film. The cast did great
Why was the movie filmed in Boston when it is talking about Detroit. I'm from the city of Detroit and this was not a good look.
Very intense and sad. Impactful, allows you to connect to the actors and be on the moment!!!
A very powerful film
Hard to watch
If you want a feel good movie, this is not for you. However, it was a good movie and very well done. I'd say it's important to know your history in hopes of a better future. And boy do I hope for a better future.
THIS movie just shows that history repeats itself. The truth was told way back then and it didn't matter just as it doesn't now, in matters doing with the police.
GREAT MOVIE, A MUST SEE. UNDER RATED
No words will do this movie justice. Just go watch it.
I feel sad having to see the reality of racial discrimination
Very tear jerking story. MUST SEE
#staywokw
Really good film. You might have trouble watching at times. And sometimes to story felt disjointed but it all ties up in the end. The ending won’t be what you expect either. It’s watchable and something everyone should at least see somewhere.
eye opening film
Such a great movie!!!
never again
We are all human beings and should treat each other the same regardless of skin complexion.
Drawn out misery
Such a good movie! Really shows you how unfair it was back in the day and still pretty much is till today. Would definitely recommend this to anyone who needs a behind the scenes look at what it's like to be a minority in this country.
A little long
it's a must see movie
I hope everyone can see ALL sides. It was a good movie.
This was a very interesting movie. Gave a good depiction of what happened then.
Wonderfully uncomfortable and timely.
This movie is one that needs to be seen, even though it is not easy to watch. Too often the truth is neglected out of fear of acknowledging what has happened. But that does not make what happened any less real or important, so this is definitely a #MustSee!
A watered down disappointment. Spike Lee would have done a much better job, any black director for that matter
Having no prior knowledge too much, it's interesting to see. A lot more people should see films like these simply for this fact. Life experiences shape how people think. There was a moment in the film that everyone can really hear the creaking of wooden type of chairs. The thought quickly fluttered through my mind. It reminded me of the creaky wooden stuff in elementary schools I've been through. Now many people have experienced these. Then there are some folk that perhaps have not. And more new children will not as schools simply modernize. Those little details shape a memory recognition that's connected to a variety of different memories in any person's mind. Anyway going back to the film. Injustice still occurs. Still crazy to know it does. Obviously a lot of people don't want to do it or have it happen. But it does and occurs by people. Society is built upon made up laws to help the gears moving. Films like this maybe help. News and social media exist though?
Felt very long but it was good
There are few films that get my blood boiling due to the injustice of society but this film probably ranks at the top of the pile.
It got so intense, that I literally had to walk out of the theater. It took me 15 minutes to calm down so I could go back.
Great performances throughout in an otherwise very sad portrayal of racial tension in Detroit in '67
it was a terrific movie
Great movie.. great production.. great acting.. I felt as if I was in the movie.. if you don't like this movie then do some self examinations
Metacritic
It’s an overwhelming horror movie—maybe a little too overwhelming.
It comes across as incomplete, its metaphors, bit characters, traumas, and tacked-on subplots never threading together into a larger canvas—a “big picture” movie where only the most tightly cornered, claustrophobic moments seem finished.
