The early 70s, a time when apparently every filmmaker was wondering "hmmmm...are seemingly mild-mannered men actually capable of savage violence????"
Patrick WillemsOct 9, 2014That part where Jon Voight second guesses who he just shot thinking he sees real teeth in the mouth. He feels the face, plays with the dentures that come out and he quietly sighs with relief. Finally something went right. Just an incredible little ice breaking moment of…

I now realize the “paddle faster, I hear banjo music!” stickers I always thought were fun are not implying one should paddle *toward* said banjo music
travisEven after watching this movie I'm still not convinced I want to go on the banjo lessons and canoe trip team-building exercise our boss has put on for us.
JizzmonkeyJan 10, 2023It's remarkable how little we know about the quartet of vacationers in Deliverance. Bobby, we're told, is in insurance. Ed knows Drew, a little — well enough to name his wife and kids without too much trouble, but beyond that, not much. We don't know what Ed does, only that…

Brad BoiSep 4, 2016"Deliverance," John Boorman's stomach-churning and now-iconic observation of the savagery of nature, man, and conscience is a film built upon and defined by its conflicts. The conflict of man versus nature gives way to the conflict of man versus man and, in turn, man versus…

Why are most the hillbillies super chill but those two randos are nasty creeps. I need to know the neighborhood structure and which hillbillies know what. Cuz I love the inbred banjo kid and the dancing old man. Ain’t no way they associate with those other freaks. Overall mid.
What in the John Boorman is this? An unexpected and unreasonable oxbow story that you definitely won't forget. I had to watch another Boorman after 'Excalibur'. Do I regret it? No. The cinematography was mesmerisingly beautiful. Boorman knows how to handle a camera and that's just a fact, not so…
Absolutely blown away by this. It’s gruesome, shocking, thrilling, disgusting, stressful and thought-provoking. Acted to perfection from any of the 4 leads. The juxtaposition of such a beautiful location with such violence is worthy of being studied. Maybe my favourite film I’ve

Truly a masterpiece. This film was compelling from beginning to end. The characters were all so fascinating and baffling at the same time. Jon Voight was phenomenal in this film, he really is the star of the show. Burt Reynolds was amazing, he reminds me of Marlon Brando.
TW:SA 10/10 At first I didn’t know how I felt about this movie, but after a few weeks i couldn’t get it out of my mind. There is a reason this is in the library of congress. That iconic scene with the banjo and the horrifying SA scene! Definitely worth a watch

This might have been the worst canoe trip ever. Trauma bonding with your besties? I was STRESSED out and I wasn't even there. Burt Reynolds, without a moustache, looks like Tommy Lee Jones...
It was a great movie especially for its time, sure it is cringey at times and the filmography is definitely outdated but it was also released in the early 70s!
