Atom User Reviews for DCI 2018: Big, Loud & Live 15
WOWOWOWOW
Fabulous opportunity to see corps that will never make it to my neck of the woods on the big screen!
Only disappointment was the cutoff before the scores. Otherwise, drum corps has reached an all-time high level of skill and sophistication. Definitely not like when I marched!!
The DCI show definitely gets 5 stars. The Atom app, also gets 5 stars... However it gets 4 stars because the feed at our theater was turned on late; cutting out The Colts; and was turned off before the results were announced.
The live broadcast of the DCI competition was great. Until the end. The theater was packed. We watched 5 hours of competition and were waiting for the scores when suddenly the theater shut off the broadcast! The theater went dark. Everyone was stunned. Last year, we watched to the end, including the announcement of the scores. Not only did the theater shut the broadcast off, but they never put the lights back on in the theater so we could see to get out! We had to use the flashlights in our phones to find our way out. No one, including me, was happy about that. And there was no one available to talk to when we left the theater. I will never do that again.
This comment is not about the broadcast itself, but about the theater where I watched it. Yes, "loud" is right there in the title. But the theatre where I attended turned the volume way, WAY too high. I have attended many previous "Big, Loud, & Live" broadcasts in other theatres, decades of live shows, and marched snare in a top-two DCI corps. According to two different phone decibel-meter apps, this theatre was at least 10 dB louder than all of them. Full-corps music segments, pit cymbals, and any time the pit members struck clangy metal objects were all physically painful to my ears. It made for a very bad customer experience. During an intermission I asked the theatre manager to turn it down a notch, to no avail. I will definitely not attend at this theatre again. DCI and Fathom Events need to put dB guidance in their agreements with theatres!
Overall, pretty good production with a few minor sound issues. Would have given it 5 Stars, but the feed was ended just before scores were announced.
simply amazing.. love seeing the talent out there.
It was excellent..visual quality and sound. However...missed the ending when satellite feed was lost. :-(
Big drum corp fan. Great opportunity to see the corps compete without traveling to Indianapolis.
One of the corps had a problem with electronics which caused them to delay their start time by approximately 7 minutes. This probably resulted at the end right before the scores were announced for the feedto go out. I heard from other friends that the feed stopped in all theaters. That was disappointing. Overall, the show was fantastic and a great opportunity for fans to watch live on the big screen!!!
Great to see soooo many young people doing something that is both artistically challenging and rewarding!
great sound mix
The performances were amazing and got even better as the night went on. I love this every year! My only reason for not 5 stars was that the feed cut out after the last performance - BEFORE the scores were announced. Boo! I had to go home and look it up on the internet. Missed the fun of cheering in the theater :-(
Perfection. But make sure you extend the timing when the show goes into overtime.
Awesome awesome will watch every year
We lost the satellite feed during a live broadcast. I don't think management was even aware. Then the video returned but we still had no audio for about another 10 minutes.
Amazing!
The theater cut the feed before the show was over. Those of us in the theater were left sitting in the dark. Up to that point the show was great.
You don’t know what your missing, if haven’t seen modern day drum corps.
Video went out for 30 minutes, then again just before scores were announced.
It wasn’t a movie, but okay. Clearly you have no idea as to what Drum Corps is. Educate yourself. :)
