One of the greatest freeze-frame endings of all time.
Aaron T. RexNov 18, 2023Where is the Top Gun-esque soundtrack packed with wall-to-wall bangers??? This desperately needs its own "Take My Breath Away" or "Danger Zone." If anything "Danger Zone" makes MORE sense in this movie because cars.
Patrick WillemsApr 18, 2021"Control is an illusion you infantile egomaniac. Nobody knows what's gonna happen next; not on a freeway, not in an airplane, not inside our own bodies and certainly not on a racetrack with 40 other infantile egomaniacs." Rides the perfect line of genuinely rousing and…
Josh Lewis - Aug 10, 2020
there’s a scene where robert duvall gently caresses and gives a motivational speech to a race car and then the camera cuts to what I assume to be some type of car fluid leak on the ground which robert duvall looks at with a disappointed expression and says “this is not the…

David SimsAug 31, 2020Top Gun with cars! Extremely ridiculous & nothing in this movie makes sense (the lead character name is Cole Trickle) but Days of Thunder is so much fun on almost meta level and i think it works if you don't take the whole thing too seriously. Plus Tony Scott shot the hell…

short man gotta go fast
jourdain searlesAug 28, 2012yes, it's a TOP GUN rehash, but what it lacks in sheer tech-fetish awesomeness is made up for by an uncommonly dark look (for a production clearly benefiting of NASCAR's cooperation) at autoracing's economic structure and the physical risk that places on drivers,…

Sylvia Nadine Joyce dislikedDays of ThunderTop Gun with racecars
Matt White likedDays of Thunder6/10 - not as good as I remember. But still very 80s.

OOOORMM VRR VRRR VRR OOORRRMMM
Thomas Joyce likedDays of ThunderAbsolute crazy audacity and belief in one’s sauce to recreate your blockbuster success from four years prior… but man is it still effective. Yeah… it’s literally Top Gun and all its story beats, just changed EVERRRR so slightly - why fix what isn’t broken? Still, it takes their achievements there…
Garmelie likedDays of ThunderAggressively 80s, with its release date possibly allowing it to be the first film called that as both a compliment and insult. Loaded with great performances all stocked by soon to be seasoned actors, all while nailing the aggressiveness that the score required. Suffers from a much slower, dimmer…

There is certain things to like about this movie but generally it’s awful. It’s like a long pop video with slow-mo scenes everywhere and Cruise just smiling all the time. The plot is ludicrous, the script awful. It’s got a good soundtrack and some good racing scenes but that’s it
Noah Julian is "meh" onDays of Thunder5.01/10. Okay cinematically it was pretty good. Acting was 🤷♂️. Script and overall story phew it sucked. Don’t know if they had a time constraint or not though. This attempting to be a serious racing movie is also bad too. This is fr just as realistic as Talledega Nights.
BUTTERS likedDays of ThunderCole Trickle you dirty freakin’ dog. Even though this show came out in 1990 it’s got 80’s all over it. To the electric guitar and synth music to Tom Cruise’s left front tooth dead center on his face. An unapologetic racing movie that got boys racing wheelchairs. Love it!

And Cruise is so efficiently packaged in this product that he plays the same role as a saint in a Mexican village's holy day procession: It's not what he does that makes him so special; it's the way he manifests everybody's faith in him.

Screenwriter Robert Towne has certainly not challenged his gifts -- the script is loaded with stock cars and stock characters -- but he does deliver what's necessary: a workable setup for exciting NASCAR racing footage shot on sixteen Winston Cup tracks from Daytona to Watkins Glen.

Tony Scottmdoes his utmost to pump up the audience's adrenaline at all times, which means that the film's big moments - the races, the crashes, the news that someone needs brain surgery - don't seem that different from the small ones.
