Small town 50’s sci fi beamed Into the 80’s is one of my favorite things, and Critters is just that—complete with a proto slingshot-wielding bart simpson, bounty hunters, Johnny steele, M. Emmit Walsh, billy zane, all star 80’s mom Dee Wallace, and troublemaking Critters…

Marshall 🔪Sep 2, 2018I borrowed all 4 of these from the library so this is my next series to revisit even though I haven’t finished Phantasm yet, I wanted to go ahead and start on this...and I love it because y’all know I love me some cute killer monsters! I remember the first two movies being…

Power of the Night is probably one of the greatest “fake” movie songs ever.
HelenJul 8, 2023all time childhood classic. Critters are on the surface just the evil twin and r-rated-lookalike 50s-meet-80s-amalgamation of ET but essentially the horde of furry communist hedgehog gremlins represent the break into a mid-western idyll of a picture perfect family with a…
shookoneDec 8, 2024This is not a Gremlins knock off. Want proof? I have a threefold argumentation for you. First the film was already written well before Gremlins went into production. Second Critters is inspired by a true event, known as The Kelly-Hopkinsville Encounter. Gremlins is not a…

Gremlins is far superior in every conceivable way but Critters is such a dumb-fun film to watch

chave lovedCrittersI actually loved this movie so much more than I expected. The critters are so fun and silly. The story goes almost exactly how you’d expect but it’s fun from beginning to end. Can’t wait to watch the rest of the movies!

Yeah yeah. Classic 80s and campy. It wasn’t bad just wasn’t great. Nothing I would want to watch again really unless someone asked. Maybe two is better? Lol
Asmodeus lovedCritterssuch a funny, corny, 80s monster movie. I kinda wanna watch all the other ones now lol I guess this is where all those Tribbles went after Star Trek!
bylersbrick on tiktok likedCrittersthis movie was a fever dream, but one i really enjoyed. but it’s one of those cheesy unoriginal horror movies so if your not into that don’t watch it

Campy 80s horror movie about really angry Furbies (ps power of the night by Johnny Steel is a killer song from the movie)
ChaosStrolling likedCrittersThe moms acting was realistic so the goofyness of everything else felt weird sometimes, but I very much enjoyed the watch
Orlando Ramone likedCrittersAnother fantastic 80s sci-fi movie. It’s fun, it’s thrilling and a very nostalgic movie for me.

What makes Critters more than a ripoff are its humor and its sense of style. This is a movie made by people who must have had fun making it.

Slap together a modestly budgeted horror film with an unmistakable resemblance to a recent hit film (Gremlins) and a notable inversion of another popular film’s ending (Poltergeist), insert just enough Podunk camp to ensure Joe Bob Briggs would catch its scent and you’ll guarantee yourself the birth of a franchise.
