Synopsis
Sam is the world's toughest female bodyguard, tasked with protecting high profile targets for terrorism and assassination. She fought her way to the top in a man's world and feels more at home in the war zones of Sudan than back at her L.A. apartment. When she's assigned to protect a VIP in Morocco, she thinks she's in for a quick and easy job. That VIP turns out to be Zoe, a young and very rich heiress who's never left her bubble of wealth and who isn't keen on being babysat. Sam can take a bullet for a president, but young privileged girls aren't her specialty - especially a spoiled one. When Zoe's bulletproof, secluded compound comes under attack in an explosive kidnapping attempt, Sam's skills are put to the test. Accused of murder themselves, they must find a way to work together, determined to hunt the attackers and their corrupt employers.

The Equalizess. very cool that women can finally have their own boring, vaguely racist DTV revenge action movies too.
Josh LewisJan 17, 2019Vicky Jewson’s “Close” transparently aspires to be something of a female riff on Jason Bourne. However, shot in only 29 days — and with a fraction of the budget for an average Hollywood blockbuster — it feels more like a proof-of-concept for an idea that the film industry…

The opening credits tease something a bit more Bond-ish than this is really after, but it's still a satisfyingly terse character piece peppered with brief bursts of violence.

dale 🍿Apr 5, 2026A counter-terrorism expert takes a job protecting a young heiress. After an attempted kidnapping puts both of their lives in danger, they must flee. Last week on the same day I watched my first Vicky Jewson film with the very entertaining Pretty Lethal and wanted to watch…

The movie had a strong start that going downhill throughout its runtime. Good acting by Noomi and Sophie, doing their best with the script that could have been a lot better. Thin story with a lot of gaps.

It’s disposable action entertainment – a throw-away title that’s not bad enough to turn off but not good enough to seek out.

In its first act, Close is a competent thriller, buoyed by early action sequences from director Vicky Jewson and some really solid scene transitions that point toward a strong style. However, as the film goes on, it switches from the precision of a sniper rifle to the scattershot effect of a drunk-wielded machine gun.

Written, directed and produced by Vicky Jewson, Close works well when it sticks to the distinctive personal details of this kind of job; but it too often defaults to a run-of-the-mill international thriller.
