Movie wasn't what I expected. No explanation on why there is a Civil War. Don't know who is who. Movie was about a group of photographers, more than anything. It had a non-realistic story line except for the ending, when the main character / photographer gets screwed over. This review is coming from a photographer. I tried to give A24 another chance, but the majority of their movies are horrible.

It’s sometimes riveting, almost wrenching at others and kind of depressing. And it generally succeeds in its main mission, de-romanticizing “civil war” and “secession,” words that the glib, the rural, old-enough-to-know-better low-information voter types and their leaders throw around.

Civil War moves in ways you’d forgotten films of this scale could – with compassion for its lead characters and a dark, prowling intellect, and yet a simultaneous total commitment to thrilling the audience at every single moment.

It isn’t what those people will think it is. It’s something better, more timely, and more thrilling — a thoroughly engaging war drama that’s more about people than about politics.
