watching an almost universally loved work of art and not connecting with it in any way whatsoever has got to be one of my least favorite film-related experiences
cinéfila... 🕯️Nov 20, 2020What a terrible name for a sled
brendan o'hareFeb 17, 2020Anyone who says this is their favorite movie is lying.

[Redundant praise] [Joke about sleds] [Regurgitated and bastardized interpretations of technical feats of skill on display] [Insincere complaint about waiting so long to watch] [Unnecessary recommendation for anyone who hasn't seen it to finally do so] 10/100
PTAbroDec 27, 2018this might be a hot take but i would've preferred to never know what "rosebud" meant and finish on that "a word can never resume a man's life" speech and this glorious backward shot of all the meaningless junk that kane owns, to show that expensive objects can't either
amayaMay 22, 2014I’m not naïve enough to think that I have anything new to offer in my entirely unnecessary ode to Citizen Kane, but I'll continue writing this anyway because I like writing about films, and Citizen Kane is a film, all right, and a Towering Masterpiece of Cinema at that. I’d…

watched in film studies it was really good and helped me appreciate black and white films more
citizen kane, despite its acclaim, is an overrated film that falls flat in several critical areas. this movie is excruciatingly boring, it completely failed to engage anyone in the room for most of its runtime, even the biggest cinephiles. the is dense and difficult to follow, it left us feeling…

For being an 80 year old film, Citizen Kane still holds up really well today. I can definitely see why this film is considered a masterpiece for it’s time. I’d say that visually it is. I was very impressed with its cinematography. I also appreciated the few themes that it had
there is a reason this movie is listed as one of the best movies of all time!! the female actresses are stupendous; it’s overwhelming in its historical-yet-current critique in modern life. just watch the film with full attention - this is truly a masterpiece and precedent in film

expectations were too high. the camerawork really carried this movie as there was many memorable shots, but other than that i could care less about the movie. but since im a sucker for cool camera angles, this gets a 6.5/10
One of the most influential films of all time, that moved the whole industry forward, and the fact that it holds up so well over 80 years is a testament to its greatness. 10/10

There is hardly a shot in Orson Welles’ towering achivement that doesn’t employ some sort of ingenious trick involving the camera, editing, sound, staging or production design. Kane didn’t invent all of its techniques, but it’s one of the few pictures I can think of that uses almost every one in the movie playbook. The film is like a dictionary of the cinematic language.
Its surface is as much fun as any movie ever made. Its depths surpass understanding. I have analyzed it a shot at a time with more than 30 groups, and together we have seen, I believe, pretty much everything that is there on the screen. The more clearly I can see its physical manifestation, the more I am stirred by its mystery.
