Forget a review, It's Chinatown.
Lee CurtisJul 19, 2019100 So, about that ending. It both *is* and *isn't* Chinatown. It's a part of the city to be abstracted, disembodied, insidiously morphed into a racist calculation of laborious figures by those who are allowed to freely leave. Even as J.J. Gittes submits and wanders into…
SilentDawnApr 28, 2020The most interested I’ve been in a movie in a long time, I was sucked in with every scene. The screenplay does a fantastic job at giving you just enough, it’s as though each individual word was carefully thought out. No wonder it’s regarded as one of the best screenplays of…

now that's how you end a film
truFeb 21, 2021In my opinion the most famous line from this movie should be when Jack Nicholson calls some rude guy at a barbershop a “bimbo”
brendan o'hareDec 9, 2019I wish the music in this would just randomly just playing throughout my life when it fits the situation.

Jack Nicholson is the only man in the world who can wear a huge band-aid on his nose and still be the coolest guy in the room!
Valdimar B. HaukssonFeb 9, 2016I read somewhere about the recurring motif of eyes and how it reinforces the noir themes of inability to see the world full circle as unraveling threads are pulled at. "There's something black in the green part of your eye." "It's a flaw in the iris." She later dies from…

Owen Fiore likedChinatownVery solid story all the way through, the ending was a bit bleak

8.8/10 Jack Nicholson was incredible in this Neo-noir murder mystery story about corruption and wealth and power in the big city - deeply tragic ending but one that reflects very important societal truths that now, even 50 years later are still relevant and necessary to understand the world - the…
Nick Dubberly is "meh" onChinatownI’ve heard this film raved about, so I decided to see for myself. Even though I’ve only seen a few of them, I do really enjoy Noir films. This one did take a while to get going, but once the mystery starts, that’s when it starts to get good. I thought this was going to be better.
Oakley Frank likedChinatownWTF! im all about leaving the ending of the movie up in the air for people to decide what happens, but wtf!? Left A LOT in the air! But put in simple terms, the movie Rango pretty much just copied the actual scandal part of this movie. Then the other part was neat, lots of twists

beautiful movie with a hauntingly tragic ending that portrays the nihilistic viewpoints of the american public while uncovering corruption which ultimately leads to nothing. great use of soundtrack and pacing, builds suspense and clues in the audience right when it needs to
Philipp dislikedChinatowni like the performances, the vibe and the initial idea of the plot but the movie is just depressing, and the ending makes everything kinda pointless, maybe thats the point i don't know. Polanski seems to like to do that sorta unsatisfying ending.
takoyaki lovedChinatownI watched this for a film class and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this film. The little details and subtleties are hard to notice at first but nonetheless pretty impactful once you unravel more of the plot. 9/10
