    My favorite characters are the State’s Attorney on the phone who is clearly tired of explaining to cops why what they did was an improper search and the guy who responds to the police saying “don’t shoot anyone outside” by saying “okay, I’ll take it inside if I can”.

Even when the epidemic of violence touches a beloved character, Ness’ careful quilting of compassion and action across her years of filming suggests a fight that won’t diminish for these citizens.
