This is like Godzilla vs. Kong for Old Hollywood DILF's.
megApr 4, 2013Move over, Anton Chigurh. Sit back down, Hannibal Lector. Step aside, Harry Powell. Max Cady has come to town, and he thinks you're all a bunch of pansies. It's one thing to put on a performance that overshadows all other aspects of an otherwise good film. It's another…
PTAbroNov 30, 2022When a justice system is so broken that it can’t put down a monster, maybe it’s time that the system itself gets put down. J. Lee Thompson’s “Cape Fear” blows the figments remaining of noir’s ’wrong man’ trope clean out of the water. Robert Mitchum’s role as the…

Robert Mitchum's performance in this and Night of the Hunter are two of the most memorable displays of terrifyingly insane lunacy I've ever watched. That score is out of this world, as is Thompson’s direction. Kind of an all timer.

Sara ClementsOct 20, 20226 foot 3 Gregory Peck leaning in a little while speaking to people (he’s 6'3) to show he wants to listen closely (bc he’s 6 feet tall + 3 inches) is so seductive (he's six three)

Robert Mitchum is hot and scary I don't know what to feel
Aaron MichaelMar 27, 2014Robert Mitchum's turn as Max Cady created one of cinema's greatest bad guys, a man with no limits who imposes his will onto an adversary who doesn't even know he is one until he's already on the back foot. This is his most depraved character, prepared to go even further…
Steven SheehanFeb 12, 2022The first thing that comes to mind when I think about Robert Mitchum’s Max Cady is Milton’s Satan. Charming, charismatic, handsome and incredibly dangerous. The personification not just of evil, but of corruption and deceit. It is an incredible performance, one of the best…

Great great story, kept me glued to the screen, anxious the entire time and guessing the diff endings that could happen. Good acting (mostly Robert), directing, political/social criticism, score too. Really excited to watch Scorsese's remake and see what he's done with it. 4/5
Great Hitchcock-adjacent thriller. Peck & Mitchum are both amazing. A harrowing nightmare scenario unfolds & the audience simmers with uncomfortable philosophical questions. There are minor plot holes, but it has a bunch of great moments, and the ending is so masterful.

Robert Mitchum is excellent at playing charismatic yet disturbing villains, first Harry Powell, now Max Cady
