    i watched this bc i saw a post about how there is "no heterosexual explanation" for this film and let me tell you... it made me pull out my phone and google "was doris day gay" halfway through so pour one out for an entire musical sequence about cohabitating girlfriends!…

    The 50’s weren’t prepared for this western butch/femme lesbian couple. They gave us “A Woman’s Touch”, and “Secret Love”, like c’mon.

    7/10 I love the songs, doris day does an AMAZING job with windy city in one take the movie would be better if it just ended with katie and calam in the cabin together 🏳️‍🌈 so that’s cannon in my head hugely problematic Indigenous representation, in language and action

The tunes are gold, and as Jane approaches a local creek, resplendent in her gorgeous yellow gown, we get one of the most famous visual gags in the history of the musical.

In Technicolor, it looks good enough to eat. But the voracity with which Miss Day has at it and wolfs it down is unnerving to see. David Butler, who directed, has wound her up tight and let her go. She does everything but hit the ceiling in lashing all over the screen.This is not altogether entrancing.
