JayFeb 3, 2019I researched John Singleton's films prior to this one because I just had to know what other amazing things he directed/wrote that led him into making this wonderful film. As it turns out, this was Singleton's directorial debut and not only that, but directing this led him…

kaylaApr 30, 2019Structurally so audacious - no plot to speak of, rather a collection of scenes centered around communication which nevertheless do link up in a remarkable set of backs and forths. That way, it both paints a portrait of a world, while also being able to sit outside of it…

one of those movies you just love so much yet only a short amount of reasons why.
An excellent coming-of-age drama that’s also 1 of the best in Black Cinema.
Boyz 'N the hood is a thoroughly fascinating and deeper look at life in Los Angeles around the early 1980s to early 1990s. The film has a certain aged charm about it; and with actors you'd easily recognise today looking very different in 1991, this adds to the feeling.

I love movies that the first half are the characters when they are younger and the second half is them older! This is a very important message and very necessary, especially in the 90s but also now, they still aren’t making as much movies about this experience.

one of the most important films of all time, the messaging & social commentary is relevant to this day. you don’t want to miss a scene because there is a diatribe or piece of screen writing gold all throughout. this film reminds you how cruel reality can be & how precious life is
