“You want to go for a ride?” “No thanks.” “No thanks. What does that mean?” “I don’t want to go.” “Go where?” “On a ride.” “A ride? Hell, that’s a good idea. Okay, let’s go.” God bless David Lynch.

The main lesson of Blue Velvet is if you find an ear on the ground, just leave it there
brendan o'hareJan 17, 2025‘I told them: There’s no way I can improve Blue Velvet’ David couldn’t get Blue Velvet made. Dino De Laurentiis told David he’d pay me to rewrite the script and David gave it to me. It was one of the best scripts I’d ever read. I told Dino there was no way I could improve…

mathewEmbarrassingly my first time. A view of suburbia and sadomachochism I didn't think was capable of existing under the same roof. A weirdness that only works in the context of the normal, and also the other way around. What a normal movie.

i understand its a david lynch film, but these types of films really dont sit well with me. they just threw away the ear plot not even a third of the way into the movie. rape scenes are too much for me in any movie. it was my main problem with A Clockwork Orange as well
Probably didn’t get a lot of it since this is my first Lynch film, but I really did not like this at all and thought most of the performances were terrible :/

a remarkable film that is able to tell a largely coherent story with lynch’s trademark surrealism and assorted scenes that feels nearly dreamlike; the symbolism and writing remains strong throughout while incredible music and performances heighten the experience to another level

This was my first David Lynch film and absolutely not my last; a brilliant surreal film exploring fantasy and passion featuring great performances, especially from Dennis Hopper
I think I’ll need a rewatch, but overall I loved the metaphors Lynch uses in Blue Velvet — you can see many of them later in Twin Peaks. He was truly a mastermind. 🌹💙 8.5/10

Isabella Rossellini’s singer Dorothy is a heart-rending open wound, Dennis Hopper’s Frank Booth one of cinema’s great nutjobs, and Lynch’s control a thing of nightmarish beauty.
An exhilarating piece of popular entertainment.
You either think it's dementedly wild at heart or a lost highway to nowhere.
