Quite possibly the saddest movie ever made for nostalgic theater kids who became middle-aged bisexual alcoholics.

Essentially a 100-minute Ethan Hawke monologue that, despite being set in one location and having minimal characters, does not have a single issue with pacing or intrigue. The things this film made me feel really run the full gamut of human emotion. Sadness, joy, cringe, pity, disgust,…

Richard Linklater really likes a story that happens overnight with Ethan Hawke making promises he can’t keep. Jokes aside, Blue Moon is probably the most fluid film I’ve ever seen. It flows like a crystal clear stream in a lively forest. The entire film is done in a single breath without…
I really enjoyed this movie! It has so much charm and humor and charisma. I love the music playing in the background. I love the hints at other musicals and other people as well and it’s just done so great. The only part that brought this movie down for me was the closet scene. I felt like it went…
Went in knowing absolutely nothing about the real life characters depicted in this film. The dialogue was phenomenal. I think i was the only person under the age of 45 in this showing. But honestly that was really fun, seeing the older crowd’s reaction to references i didnt get

All about the dialogue and storytelling. Didn’t think I’d care about this movie much about 5-10 minutes into it but it just started clicking. Lorenz had such an eloquent and humor way of speaking, truly genius. Liked it a lot. 8.75/10
8/10 I couldn’t take my eyes off of Ethan Hawke the entire time. The fact that 99% of this movie is shot in just 2 rooms just shows how tantalizing Hawke’s performance is. As of now, he definitely gets my vote for best actor this year

Amazing movie. They don’t make them like this anymore.
Metacritic
It’s a tender – and sometimes affecting – portrait of the artist, one that hopefully will allow modern audiences to remember the contributions Lorenz Hart made to popular culture.
Lorenz is the kind of role that Hawke thrives in — a big talker and a self-mythologizer who everyone can’t help but like, despite being aware that he’s mostly full of shit. He wisely approaches the character like he’s giving a performance of a performance, his Lorenz committing himself as thoroughly as he can to acting like someone who’s happy and having a good time despite everything in his life crumbling away.
You can expect Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman-like banter from Robert Kaplow’s finely-tuned screenplay, an expert evocation of the ‘40s.
