Four generations of martial arts stars unite! Directed by Yuen Woo Ping, icons like Wu Jing, Nicholas Tse, and Jet Li come together for an epic martial arts event. In the desert, many groups, including escorts, the government, and merchants, are fighting for power. Dao Ma, a famous bounty hunter, takes a job to protect a man on the long road to the city of Chang’an. However, he discovers the person he is protecting is the empire's most wanted man, Zhi Shi Lang. Now, every greedy faction is hunting them, and a deadly battle for the prize begins.
If this is it for the 80-year-old Yuen Woo-ping, it's one hell of a way to go out. Based on a very popular manhua/animated series, BLADES is just an excuse for Woo Ping to do what he does best: Throw together some charismatic martial arts actors and have them get into…
Yuen Woo-ping’s imagination for action scenes remains undiminished. I dunno, it just feels really good to enjoy a contemporary Chinese wuxia blockbuster for a change!
The legendary Yuen Woo-Ping directs with the energy and vitality of a filmmaker who’s still hungry and just getting started despite being 80 years old. This was a really badass action flick with tons of incredible fight sequences. See it on the big screen while you can!
An 81-years-old Yuen Woo-ping wants to remind you he is one of, if not the greatest fight choreographer of all-time, and this exhaustingly epic, unreconstructed wuxia blockbuster makes a strong case. Though there's more CGI and Steadicam roaming than he had access to 50…
✅ 3.6 / 5 ✅ — Blades of the Guardians is a little rough around the edges and cheesy as all get-out… but when those blades finally line up, it cuts deep. So a review crossed my path claiming the action here was every bit as good as The Furious. So I had to see for myself.…
“Cynthia Khan is very professional and a great performer. She doesn’t come from a wushu background, which makes her achievements even more impressive. The action film industry has always been male-dominated, so the women who succeed in this industry are very tough and…
Some incredible choreography done on an impressively large scale. The narrative is at the same time packed with multiple strands with a simple, propulsive logic. Plenty of good actors; we know it is going to end with the big swordfight between Wu Jing and Nicholas Tse, but…
I have one critic point already from the beginning on - the color grading is too yellow. This gives it something artificial. It doesn’t look natural as it could look. The nights are green, dusk is blue. Can’t say this is a really colorful film with this filter…
this gotta be the most year of the horse movie ever
I wish I could remember what actually happened in this movie. I would rewatch it, but I don't really have the effort to. What I do remember is Jet Li and an incredibly insane and unhinged level of stunt work. Top-tier action sequences and beautiful set pieces, costumes, and style. I mean, nobody…
This was an in-flight movie , it was okay - spectacular effects but plot was amiss
If you like cool martial arts sword-fighting action—this movie is for you! Great action & stuntwork, & some really cool things I haven't seen in a martial arts movie before. The movie just oozes coolness. Esp. the Jade-faced Ghost #favoritecharacter ⚠️ Content Warning (implied)
7/10 I’m in a very Chinese time of my life on a plane to China. Fun film, the choreography was kinda peak if you get over the fact they can lowkey fly. All the characters were unique and dope.
Absolutely brilliant action, definitely enhanced by the cinema trip (and imax screen), highly recommended, 10/10
mandarin movies never let me down - pretty sick, would recommend if you like action 7/10
Quite enjoyed it, good storyline

Jet Li should have been main villain throughout. He still got the kicks.
