120fps may be the future of documentaries, of sports, of porn, but it ain't the future of scripted entertainment. God bless Ang Lee for trying, but it feels like fast-forward. the hyper-reality highlights the artifice. the hyper-clarity of the 4K resolution (and the…

the script is obviously too on the nose in places and certain moments strain credulity, but it doesn't really matter. this is so brilliantly conceived and realized, a hyperreal nightmare of flaring synapses, swiveling video game POV shots, deeply disturbing dialectical…

Rafael "Mister Movie" JovineNov 18, 2016This was really bizarre, but I kind of dug it? Ang Lee is definitely one of the most ambitious and ground-breaking directors out there. I have never seen anything quite like Billy Lynn's Halftime Walk.

Kirsten Stewart made it worse, she should stop acting
Jimmy Cricket lovedBilly Lynn's Long Halftime WalkA moving examination of PTSD and survivor’s guilt; the script isn’t as strong as it should be, and is weighed down by Ang Lee’s attempt at technical innovation—a move which plagues his current, later half of his career. Despite that I really loved it and found it to be powerful.
AtomicWarhead likedBilly Lynn's Long Halftime WalkDon’t typically watch war movies. but i like that this shows the pain and trauma held by soldiers once they leave and get a brief moment of civilization, after risking their lives to do something “heroic”

As a 21st-century account of the soldier’s enduring alienation from the home front, Billy Lynn is highly effective. It’s what surrounds that account that doesn’t work.

So long as “Billy Lynn” remains focused on his ambiguous mindset, it remains an engaging, somewhat theatrical character study. But Lee’s ongoing need to complicate his approach yields a movie trapped between conventional narrative tropes and questionable attempts to deliver something that registers on a more visceral level.

Billy Lynn has its moments, but its critical and unexpected folly is that the cutting-edge technology diminishes the picture emotionally, its ungainly look trivializes the drama and indulges it with an undesirable air of superficiality.
