Synopsis
In this slick South Korean remake of 2012’s dark and gritty Chinese film Drug War, a seriously determined cop obsessed with bringing down the leader of Asia’s largest drug cartel works with a small-time gang member intent on seeking revenge. As the tagline says, sometimes you must “Trust in a sinner to catch a devil.” Sounds like a plan. Co-written and directed by Lee Hae-young and starring Kim Joo-hyuk in his final film role.

Great film.
Metacritic
It’s damning, if not quite fatal, that Lee’s version works best when it’s riffing on the standout elements of the source material rather than trying to reinvent them.
Believer may be more impressive around the edges than at its core, but that doesn’t prevent it from delivering a pretty solid two hours of action and suspense that’s muscularly directed by Lee and stylishly shot by Kim Tae-kyung.
