there’s a scene in here that’s just a wide where the kid goes, “daddy are we gonna have to leave belfast?” the dad pauses, and then they immediately cut out of that scene. scenes and moments like this are littered throughout this film, all captured in a wide angle lens that…
KarstenJan 7, 2022put this on when Cheyenne said she wanted to watch something this evening that didn’t have any death in it. as soon as the grandpa got up and started dancing i said “okay I’m very sorry but that man is going to die.” if an old guy dances in a movie, it’s cause you’re…

A good movie if you’ve only seen 4 or 5 movies
LukeNov 18, 2021I don’t care if it’s Oscar bait, it was cute and almost made me cry like four times.

Kenneth Branagh managed to make a movie about The Troubles without a political ideology, a movie about his childhood without any tangible specificity and a movie about Northern Ireland that felt like it could have been shot anywhere on the planet. he is a failure of a…
Logan KennyDec 15, 202125 Kenneth Branagh tries his hand at Social Realism and ends up with a movie that's all about a family that eavesdrops on each other. This doesn't feel any different from the trailer, in all honesty. You can watch that instead and you seriously won't miss a thing. Earnest…

magnificent! conflict through the eyes of children. i knew things were getting worse & worse & yet i was overcome by the beautiful innocence with which the story is told. Buddy has my heart forever. there were bits where the symbolism was kinda overexaggerated tho.
A simple story told perfectly. Buddy is adorable and believable, his lived experience captured that of many children growing up during the early 60s. Beautifully shot and well paced

Beautiful, wholesome, and emotional coming to age film. The cinematography is stunning, and you can tell they put lots of thought into this film. I’m not surprised it’s an Oscar nominee. The music is joyful, the story is powerful, goodcharacters. This is a new comfort film for me.
i enjoyed watching the family’s relationship dynamics evolve in the context of 1960s belfast, as well as the impact of the black and white color palette, intense score, the dramatic cinematography. despite the impressive composition, it was a too boring and artsy-indie for me.

An interesting movie is the simplest way to put it, under the presumption that it is all based off of a true story. Provides an interesting outlook on the effects of war from a child’s perspective and not the overall harm but the social damage it can do.
It has Colin Morgan in it (he should’ve got a villain arc in Merlin). Wdy think. Also, empathetic telling of the Troubles and Belfast at the time. Definitely a good decision to make it b&w (mostly). Love the clever colouration atps too!

Loved the music and the photography of the movie . Didn’t understand much of the Irish English language spoken .

Very sweet movie! Great acting & beautiful cinematography. Kenneth Branagh did a great job creating this.
KHKathleen HabeggerLoved it. The re-creation of the period was spot-on down to the smallest detail, and the black and white filming added to our total immersion in the time. Actors were wonderful, especially young Jude Hill and veteran actor Ciaran Hinds.
DMDarin McGeeIt was enjoyable

Such a good personal story told so good
SCSusan CummingI love that it was in black and white. If your children don't know about the civil war between Protestants and Catholics I would about it before and after. Only a small amount of time focuses on the violence.
