Atom User Reviews for Batman: Mask of the Phantasm 25th Anniversary
A personal favorite. I was too young to see it when it origimally hit theaters so it's a real treat to see it on the big screen now. honestly one of the best and most underrated batman movies, animated or otherwise!
My personal favorite Batman movie. The amount of mature themes and compelling characterization rival The Dark Knight itself - FIFTEEN YEARS before it came out!
The definitive version of Batman.
I saw this with my Dad 25 years ago in theaters. It was a great experience taking my sons to see this when it was re-released.
Batman here is a wimp who needs seasoning! JuiJitsu ain't cutting it! Dana Delany who plays Andrea Beaumont is certainly a better crimefighter than Kevin Conroy's Batman! Just look @ the evidence the medallion in the Batcave, her fighting skills, & her contacts in the underworld! Hands down Andrea Beaumont is a better crimefighter than Batman! Still, all in all worth watching!
Batman in its prime.
Still holds up, absolutely fantastic
I have watched this movie several times (first on TV, then on VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray), but seeing it in the theater was a special treat. Parts such as the opening theme with its choral chanting as they took us through Gotham City were extra cool, as were some of the action sequences. I love this movie on multiple levels, including how it delves into a romantic relationship in a way that none of the other Batman movies (animated or live-action) has. The Andrea Beaumont/Phantasm character is fantastic.
#NeverSawIt The theater NEVER showed it for at least 15 minutes. I left and got my money back. I will NEVER do Fathom Events ever again.
I waited to see this movie for the first time in theaters! This was genuinely my first view of it, and I laughed so hard! The voice acting in the hospital scene was awesome. I think it's worth the watch if you're a fan of the animated series. Kind of alienating to see as a gay Korean woman but it was the 90's I guess? Loved iiiiit. >:3
Still as awesome as I first saw in 1993.
The movie is great. However, AMC Bay Street in Emeryville, CA didn't start the show until someone went to prompt them, and it was also silent until they (eventually) noticed and turned it on.They also skipped the short preceding the show. Very unimpressed with the theater's service.
Such a good movie and awesome to see it on the big screen
Saw it Christmas Day 25 years ago. Got a tingle down my spine as the music started. My daughter loved it but thought the ending was kind of sad. Better than most live action Batman films.
I was 10 when this movie came out, but we didn't have a lot of money so I wasn't going to ask my dad for money to watch a Batman cartoon. Fast forward 25 years to a great job and good pay, and I wasn't going to miss it on the big screen again. I took my 10 year old nephew and he enjoyed it almost as much as I did. I own the movie, but it was simply fantastic seeing it in a theater.
Definitely one of the best Batman movies ever.
Clever story. I enjoyed it again in the big screen.
Amazingly, it still holds up all these many years later from when I was a kid. It's been long enough that I didn't remember many of the details. And I have a new appreciation for the Joker these days. Very cool.
This is a story of the burden of Batman and the hopeless Bruce Wayne. It’s incredible to see and still feel for this animated masterpiece after 25 years. Of course the art still holds up, and Shirley Walker’s score allows the weight on Wayne’s shoulders to be felt in your soul, especially as you see Batman’s sorrowful head bowed towards the iconic symbol in the conclusion. Amazingly done, this is perhaps one of the best adapatations of Batman, and most definitely one of the best Batman films of all time.
Metacritic
Mark Hamill nails every one liner the writers throw at him (I tried to get as many as I could in Stray Observations, but I’m sure I missed some), and his signature Joker laugh is used to chilling effect throughout the film.
