Charlotte ThorntonAug 3, 2025Watching this on the big screen for the first time in 30 years something became really clear: while there are big major things here that do not work – Jones' entire performance, the whole Robin storyline (why is an adult man being adopted?), the one baffling scene where…

What a tragedy that Joel believed fans hated him for misunderstanding the character, when in reality, I think he understood Bruce Wayne and Gotham in such a personal, tragic way. People talk about the homo-erotic nature of the Joel’s Batman, but never beyond the…

bombsfallJul 12, 2020One of the greatest shots of all time is the file footage of Tommy Lee Jones having acid thrown at him in a court room and sudden cut (in archival footage) of Batman, seated in the first row of the court, leaping over the guard rail.

I was 50/50 with this. The plot is fairly non existent and the movie feels and looks like a theatre show. Kilmer is ok as Batman without really doing a lot. Carrey and Jones as the villains are unbelievably OTT. It’s saving grace is the non stop action scenes. Guilty pleasure
4.8 - A lot of what makes the Burton films good is missing & it feels like a rip off. Tommy Lee Jones’s Two Face feels like a Nicholson Joker rip. Carrey’s Riddler is over the top, bordering on “too much.” Val Kilmer’s Batman is flat and boring. Just doesn’t work like the others.

What a mix this one is. The scenery is gorgeous, the neon and black light drenched scenes are incredible and the soundtrack is absolutely perfect. but, those performances are so rough. I remembered this being exactly my jam as a kid, but I just can't stand almost any of the cast

It’s colorful and energetic, with Carrey & Jones bringing chaotic fun, but it sacrifices substance for style. Kilmer delivers a decent Batman, but the emotional beats don’t fully land. It’s a lighter, flashier take on Gotham that entertains but rarely feels meaningful.
This is a course correction after Burton's returns didn't do the numbers the execs wanted. It's a mixed bag and basically feels like Adam West Batman but with a budget. There are a few decent things but overall lacking the bold excitement of the previous Burton flicks.
