Remember when Michael Jordan came out of retirement to play for the Wizards? It was always interesting watching Jordan play basketball. But he was still on the Wizards.
Mark HayesSep 28, 2025nyff63 #2 i’d much rather watch a debut filmmaker take these types of risks and “fail” than watch one play it annoyingly safe and deliver something forgettably average. most of it proved weightless but there are hints of something cool in here. daniel day and sean bean are…

on the one hand, there were only six people in the theater that I saw this in. on the other hand, me and Paul Schrader were two of them, so it’s impossible to say whether this movie is failing or succeeding
Bobby WagnerOct 2, 2025This movie kind of has delusions of grandeur, like it thinks it’s way smarter than it actually is. The premise is simple, but they stretch it out by spoon-feeding information, and honestly, I found myself drifting off a few times. Also, it has some Sci-Fi elements that…
Viper🐍Sep 28, 2025Daniel Day Lewis retires, comes back, and gives 2 monologues that are better than 99% of acting you’ll see the entire year

Daniel Day-Lewis: *monologues* Sean Bean: 😦
Jon ChalantOct 3, 2025This may be an unpopular opinion, but I believe it's precisely Daniel Day-Lewis's overwhelming presence that prevented this film from fully realizing its potential. Having the greatest contemporary actor in his film, especially in his return after eight years away from the…

Very well shot. The choreography, the colorization, and the blocking are all magnificent. The actors and performances are stellar. The story, though, is told through shots and images and sound design. I enjoyed this film, but I don’t think it will be popular. It’s a Decent Watch.
Would be way better as a short film 20 minutes. The story is captivating but gets interrupted as the director says “check out these awesome views and shots I can do with the camera.” is it stunning, yes, but also distracts from the story with a runtime that is 2.5 hours long.

Love Daniel Day. Always going to support whatever he does.
Metacritic
After a strong opening drag, there’s the feeling that the film doesn’t really have anything more to say, its revelations seeming fairly paltry in the scheme of things.
Anemone does a capable job of building up the mystery at its heart, waiting and waiting until the pressure builds before finally giving both audiences and its characters a release valve — primarily through yet another tour-de-force monologue that Daniel Day-Lewis makes a meal out of, as he's done many a time before.
The first and most important thing to say about “Anemone,” a bleak, somber, absorbing but also sometimes frustratingly opaque collaboration with his director son Ronan, is that it’s brought Day-Lewis back.
