Atom User Reviews for An American in Paris (1951) presented by TCM
The music -- singing and dancing -- was fine, but the segues from action to music often/almost always8 seemed forced -- not smooth or natural. The TCM announcer said it was the best musical ever. No. Certainly not better than Meet Me In St. Louis, Singing in the Rain, or even Thoroughly Modern Milly. I had seen A in P several years ago. I didn't remember that Gene Kelly's character was such an arrogant jerk. Leslie Caron's character was that of an immature, disingenuous child. At the end of the movie, TCM & Fathom Events comments/info were THE end of the show. There were no ending credits.
Love, love, love Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron! This movie is so much fun. I could seriously watch Gene Kelly dance all day long. They just don't make movies like this any more.
I love Gene Kelly and this is one of his great films!!
Great dancing and sound track. Love these old films
A musical masterpiece
It was So Exciting to see this on the Big Screen!!! Finally! One of our all time favs & more so now.
These epic musicals were meant to be seen on the big screen; TV screens don't do them justice.
Just a great location and setting!
My wife and I never had the opportunity to see it on the big screen. Loved it on TV, but it was even better here. We had a great time. Gene Kelly is the best!
I was totally enthralled by this movie! The music and dancing were fantastic!
