I love Sci-fi films where the technology is present but isn’t the driving force of the film. After Yang could of gone in many directions and I’m glad it chose a more reflective path of memories and unknown past. Watch this and Aftersun on the same night. Great Pairing. 8/10
sana dislikedAfter YangIt could’ve been a good short film but the directors were focusing too much on the aesthetics. Some of the scenes were longer than required and some weren’t needed at all. Overall just very drab and will put you to sleep. Good acting though.
ParanoidAndroid24 is "meh" onAfter Yangidk if this went over my head but i just felt like i was waiting for an introduction to end the whole time. i get that this is supposed to be subtle in its storytelling and that it emphasizes on an emotional aspect, but it just wasn’t for me. nice aesthetics. The best part of this film is the feeling, like riding a low-key wavelength. It moves at its own pace and has a philosophical ambition. Whether it really lives up to its weight is a different question, but the concepts feel thought provoking and relevant. 8

Jake Sinclair is "meh" onAfter YangIt was fine, the shots were pretty. The first half hour was genuinely exciting. I thought it was going somewhere more interesting than it did. By the last half hour I was waiting for it to end. 5.5/10

Though it might meander at times, After Yang—based on Alexander Weinstein’s short story “Saying Goodbye to Yang”—is always emotionally intelligent and artfully prescient, showcasing Kogonada’s penchant for sparse storytelling even if the narrative throughlines don’t always feel as rewarding as the film’s aesthetic splendors.
