very relatable that Kaufman’s immediate response to Being John Malkovich’s success was a healthy dose of suicidal self-reflexive wallowing, if only mine resulted in screenplays like this

LucyI remember the exact moment in Adaptation when it went from being a great movie to one of the my all time favorites: the low speed car chase between the Kaufmans and Susan Orlean. This was the moment I realized that, after two acts spent carefully creating rich, interesting…

A movie about a book to screenplay adaptation of the movie you're watching ........ sheer genius!
DirkHWhoever told me to add this to the 100 Summer Movies list, thank you. I think I just fell in love with film all over again.

meryl streep and chris cooper humming a dial tone together over the phone is a huge quarantine mood
ksenijaJul 11, 2022Ironically this starts brilliantly but once Kaufman starts applying the McKee formula I honestly just kinda get bored. Maybe that's the point?

i love the nonlinear structure and how the creative process is depicted, it’s painfully relatable and real it breaks all the rules to show that you can break them and still tell such a profound story i was touched by so many scenes in this, the acting and writing was captivating
An original film about a screenwriter’s hardships while writing an adaptation of a book about orchids. Nicolas Cage is hilarious and deep and the rest of the cast are just as good. The movie is insane and cleverly written as well. I give this film 5 Cages out of 5.

A smart, innovate and strikingly original film exploring the creative process. This was my third viewing. Nick Cage gives maybe his best performance in duel roles and he plays them both differently in every single aspect. The script is superb for all the reasons previously stated
A bit confused at first but this movie is so interesting and entertaining: when you think you got the story it just wows you. The cast is spectacular and so are the dialogues. I liked how the characters evolved and how the narration is told. Recommended (leave expectations out).
I really liked this movie, the depth of how meta Charlie Kaufman can go still shocks me as I go deeper into his movies. The acting was phenomenal all around, Nick Cage was great, along with all the others, but Chris Cooper was the standout. The plot was awesome too. Easy 7.5/10

Initially a captivatingly meta film however it does overstay it’s welcome. Nic Cage is great as he always is and the cast is rather impressive. The meta-ness works but I don’t feel like it fully delivers on the concept. I enjoyed the 3rd act despite how out of nowhere it felt
This movie’s poster has had me intrigued for years. I knew absolutely nothing about it. There were a couple of stars that I were surprised to see starring in this. As for the story, it really wasn’t for me, I was mostly bored the entire time and couldn’t wait for it to end.
