Hanks is in negotiations to play Col. Tom Parker, Elvis Presley’s legendary (and very controlling) manager, for director Baz Luhrmann and Warner Bros., according to The Hollywood Reporter.
While the search for an actor to play Elvis has yet to begin, the movie will reportedly be a two-hander that follows The King’s rise to stardom while exploring his relationship with Parker.
The untitled film marks Luhrmann’s first movie since 2013’s The Great Gatsby, which was also for Warner Bros. Luhrmann wrote the script for the Elvis-Parker story with Craig Pierce, who also cowrote Gatsby and Moulin Rouge with the director.
Production is eyeing a fall 2019 start, giving Hanks plenty of time to finish shooting his current project, the Amblin sci-fi drama Bios.
A release date for the Hanks-Luhrmann project has yet to be announced, but we will keep you posted. This is definitely one movie you wanna keep on your radar.
