My Man!: 'Aquaman' Star Jason Momoa In Talks to Join 'Dune'

Jason Momoa is going from Atlantis to outer space. Specifically, a planet covered in sand.

Deadline reports that the Aquaman star is in talks to the join the already impressive cast of director Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. Should the deal go through, he will play a character with one of the coolest names in the history of ever: Duncan Idaho.

Momoa’s casting comes on the heels of Josh Brolin boarding the film, another comic book movie star to bolster the film’s bananas cast. In addition to Aquaman and Thanos, the cast includes: Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, and Oscar winner Javier Bardem.

Based on the classic sci-fi novel by Frank Herbert, the movie centers on Paul Atreides (Chalamet), who calls the desert planet Arrakis (think a Game of Thrones-y Tatooine) home. Arrakis is the sole producer of Spice, the universe’s most valuable resource – a resource Paul must lead a rebellion to protect in order to ensure it stays in the controlling hands of his family. The last time Dune made it to the big screen, it was director David Lynch’s 1984 cult fave that proved to be a costly box office disappointment.

Here’s hoping Villeneuve and his all-star cast has better luck. Dune has yet to announce its release date, but word ’round the campfire is it hits theaters in 2021.
