me: okay yes it's a very charming movie and the cast is so stacked and there's a quaintness to everyone's attitudes about the internet and computers but why does the big chain actually win and put the little store out of business with no real consequences or emotional…

A movie that’s oddly relevant today. With online dating and meeting people online becoming more and more prevalent and regular, this film reminds us of the incongruities that can come along with such regularities. With a believable romance and lovable characters. 10/10 romcom.
Super cute movie!! Didn’t rly see why she’d want to be with him at the end after he straight up lied to her so many times but it was a really cute plot

I loved this movie so much. It was my first time watching it and I will definitely watch it again. Especially with it being about a bookstore owner and me being a bookworm made me love it more. Tom Hanks is also one of the greatest actors of all time and he was great in this.

A valentine to the happenstance miracle of lovers and other strangers, a movie that regards modern romance as something that is, ultimately, old-fashioned to its core.
A perfectly enjoyable star vehicle that does exactly what it sets out to do. [7 May 1999, p.66]
This is filmmaking as a minor feat of engineering, the kind where even the gossamer emotions seem like prefab components -- charm, whimsy, serendipity, all so many discs plugged into the hard drive.
