Excellent cast. This is not uplifting, but needs to be heard
Krymalowski brings a vivacious energy to a movie that would otherwise be one long trudge to safe haven.
Director Caroline Link (Nowhere in Africa) brings handsome period production values and a lyrical, restrained sensibility to a narrative that might not qualify as riveting, but exerts its own unmistakable emotional pull.
The reality of Nazi Germany and its looming atrocities feels as if it exists only beyond the edges of the film’s frame.
