When the son of a woman, played by Susan Sarandon, is taken hostage by terrorists, she takes his rescue into her own hands. This is no Liam Neeson-style action movie, however. E.R. nurse Helen is frustrated by bureaucracy and government inaction when her war correspondent son is taken hostage while covering the crisis in Syria.

Then Helen is connected with the Viper Club, a clandestine and less-than-legal organization which might be able to reach her son. Another woman (Edie Falco) promises aid, as does Sam (Matt Bomer), a friend and colleague of Helen’s son. But even with high-powered help, a positive outcome is far from a given.
