The Woman in the Yard looking at the Woman in the Window from Across the Street
-ˏˋ mak ˊˎ-Mar 28, 2025Moral of the story is if you’re a bad mom, kill yourself. Very underwhelming. Movie’s not bad but wasn’t what I was expecting at all. Heavy themes of grief, and weirdly comes off pro suicide. Would have been better as a short film

3.6 - I expected this to be horrible, & it was just bad, so I guess that’s a win? There’s definitely more to the story than the trailer implied, & Danielle Deadwyler holds down her lead role well. But a messy story & an extreme lack of effective scare moments still make it more of a disappointment…
Seeing the Blumhouse logo gives me anxiety, not for the horror but for the idiocy in nearly every project they produce. I guess it's to keep a younger audience, although I noticed a slight improvement in this. Not so much in the story but the errors, as cliche as they may be. I love the allegories…

Save your time and money. The movie is nothing like it is portrayed and is one big snooze fest.
In between like and love! It was very sad but I like that it really makes you think and is somewhat (?) ambiguous (imo the ending was made pretty clear but I suppose it could be left up to interpretation). I feel like the low ratings are just bc people didn’t understand it 😭

Semi spoiler?⚠️ Going into this i had zero interest and low expectations for this film. Not only did this surpass all of that, but it hit it out of the ball park with that beautifully crafted ending/plot "twist". So close to a masterpiece....so very VERY close. I was in tears
“your husband’s not coming home.” I don’t really know how to feel about this movie. I watched multiple explanation videos and I understand now but I don’t like the ending if it’s true. there also should definitely be a trigger warning for this cause I was not expecting THAT.

This movie didn’t make any sense to me. It had a few jump scares but the overall plot was confusing. Whom ever wrote this needs help. I could’ve written a better story line. Love the actors though. Don’t waste your time or movie. It’ll flop to a streaming app soon. Probably Tubi
Boring
Metacritic
Deadwyler remains credibly frazzled, pushed towards monstrousness in ways that will be familiar to anyone who homeschooled during Covid, and the bundled figure closing in on her is genuine nightmare fuel. Yet the rest of this hotchpotch never matches it, and flails in trying to explain it away.
Some genre fans will be disappointed by the film’s slow-burn style and the cryptic nature of Sam Stefanak’s screenplay, including its twist ending that’s open to interpretation. But for anyone more interested in cerebral horror and less in watching arteries gushing and entrails popping out, The Woman in the Yard offers considerable rewards.
While the film does subvert basic audience expectations, it doesn’t really do anything beyond that as it stumbles through a choppy and meandering narrative that not even an admittedly committed lead performance by Danielle Deadwyler can help save.
