James Gunn managed to create a movie that simultaneously introduced a dozen new characters whole still making you feel like you've known them for a long time. The Suicide Squad is amazingly action packed, gruesome, endearingly emotional, and dabbled with horrific wtf moments. It was a unique and captivating experience that somehow managed to keep surprising and superceding my expectations. The number of times I thought, "man I did not see that coming" was surprisingly high. I also loved the casting, visual effects, musical choices, and overall emotional feeling that this movie had. Definitely recommend for action and super hero fans
A DC movie done right actually really good
Metacritic
The most fun and least depressing superhero movie in a very long time, Gunn’s deliriously ultra-violent “The Suicide Squad” wears the yoke of its genre with a lightness that allows it to slip loose of the usual restraints, if not quite shake them off altogether.
It's the kind of filmmaking that rewards returning fans while being accessible to new or casual viewers. As a result, The Suicide Squad is a delicious, deviant and delightful watch for everyone.
At times, The Suicide Squad feels less like a movie than a mission statement from a director. Behold, look what I can do with a budget and all the comic book characters I can play with. But, the unexpected heart at the center of the film, a sneaky anti-imperialist bent, and Gunn’s wild visual leaps make The Suicide Squad a bloody, gory delight.
