this director really expected the audience to go “oh god please don’t burn down the plantation!” two separate times
The Last KeltonSep 1, 2012After Braveheart, Gibson's crusade to destroy the English continues. Scores points for accurately depicting the effects of a cannonball. And that's about it.
DirkHFeb 14, 2014What I learned from watching The Patriot: -Americans are special and awesome and heroes -The British are horrible, unredeemable monsters -The French are pansies, but they helped America so they're okay -Black people are not really of note except for one or…

I would like to thank Mel Gibson for inventing freedom, Christianity and America.

this film will NOT get a proper review because i am angry that heath ledger died. i’m crying. sacrifice mel gibson instead </3
savanna 🫐Jan 8, 2025At one point in time Mel Gibson could have killed Captain America with a hatchet and a flint lock
hugefilmguyFeb 10, 2024I can forgive this film's MANY travesties of history which include portraying the Red Coats like the Nazis on the Eastern Front, that all the black people on Mel's family farmhouse in colonial South Carolina where things are "planted" are all there of their own accord or…

i watched this a while ago and don’t be deterred by the length it is actually engaging. heath ledger was amazing and there were so many tears shed like immediately. 7.8/10
Happy 4th of July & a merry yee haw! Great heart & cinematography to this movie. Absolutely shows the strength & spirit of American colonists fighting for independence, even if historical liberties were taken (especially w/the main villain but it adds drama ig).+Mel’s acting was🔥

8.2/10 Only revolutionary war movie and I wish there were more. Not historically accurate at all so if you were hoping for a documentary, you won’t find it. The final battle and the ambush in the woods stood out to me as action masterclasses. Heath ledger was amazing, he always is in his few roles.
Amazing movie. There's a good amount of brutality, which I appreciate as it's a war movie. It's also heart wrenching to watch at points as well, and you feel for the characters. The acting was amazing and honest, and really helped me immerse into the movie. I'll always watch this again.
this was a powerful and emotional war film that focused on family over battles. watching the conflict through a father's eyes gave it a new meaning, and i grew attached to the martin family. both gabriel and anne's losses were heartbreaking. it may long, but it is truly engaging.

Saw this movie a few years ago and it is honestly one of my most favorite Mel Gibson films. The traditional Revolutionary War battles were great, the villain, monstrously amazing, the storyline, even more astonishing. A truly patriotic and masterpiece of a film. I give it a 10/10
Just an awesome historical epic starring Mel Gibson and one of the greatest actors of our generation Heath Ledger. The story was phenomenal and the battle sequences was well executed. But in my opinion I fought Heath Ledger gave a more compelling performance than Mel did.
