they really teased Gandalf like he's the next guy to join the avengers

Jamie GilmoreDec 13, 2024As someone who has been a lifelong LOTR obsessor (both books and the trilogy - books more so in my early years), I got very little out of this. It feels like a very shielded attempt at grasping at whatever straws left by Tolkien, in this case literally a few pages worth of…

PT99Dec 9, 2024In this dark age of assembly line sequels, remakes, and spin-offs, a feature-length anime film set within Middle-earth — specifically in the version of it that Peter Jackson immortalized with his “Lord of the Rings” trilogy — qualifies as an appreciably novel method for…

Who would’ve thought that this famous story from the LOTR universe would be so beautifully told in anime form. As far as I'm concerned, they can keep doing this forever. King Helm voiced by Brian Cox is truly a force of nature! So much better than The Hobbit trilogy and The…
AndréDec 12, 2024I know if there’s ever a live-action version of this film that Anya Taylor Joy and her wig from The Menu are perfect for the role.

I didn’t know whether to rate it “Meh” or “Like”. The animation medium worked quite well for telling a story of Middle Earth in my opinion, but the storytelling could have been better 🙃 My friend summed the movie up quite nicely as we left the theatre: men!!
THIS WAS SO FREAKING GOOD. Forced my mom to join me even though she isn’t a lover of anime-esque things she even loved it when she planned on falling asleep 😂
ta pmo so bad, like its meant to be raigebait. all those incompetent men never listening to her advice only to dump all the responsibility on her at the hardest. there was a story there, and possibly symbolism that was easy to miss bc of the bad storytelling(twas too short).

Rohan women are always a baddie. Eowyn is basically hera's reincarnation. And how did he lose to a woman? Loser. Christophers lee's voice coming back is such a relief. And gandalf mention? Hell yes! Although i will 4ever prefer the live action movies
6/10 it was good but would have been better if used the 1978 animation technique (minus the live footage) as that show more emotion in there faces. Liked the story and love the LOTR universe.

The film is very good. Maybe because I don't know much about animation or similar, but I think it's a well-made film and I don't understand the criticism.
7/10 Pretty decent film. Not really super connected to LOTR in many ways but a good side story. It felt a bit dragged out at times and there were a lot of things going on throughout that could have been left. The animation I thought was good, sometimes it was choppy but still good. The main…
Listen, I like LOTR, I do not love it. For me, this was an okay movie. The first half was mostly exposition of things that would happen in the second half, which made the first half super boring. However the second half was actually pretty good. Lore wise, great. Movie wise, okay

I think it's a great movie, to give it a number, I'd say 8/10. I really like the art style of the anime and visuals, acting and sound design are great along with the musical score. It is too much on the girl boss type of movie, mostly because of a side character, but it wasn't obnoxious about it so it's not a bother. I think it's a good story to watch if one really likes the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies.
Honestly fairly positive entry into the LOTR universe. Did drag on a bit towards the end but overall a solid story
Metacritic
As much as The War of the Rohirrim tries its best to live up to the lofty standards set by the original movies, it only really shines when it manages to forget that it's a franchise movie at all.
It's a strong, engaging story that showcases some striking animation, and if I am to return to the wider world of Peter Jackson's Middle-earth, this seems to me an ideal way to go about it.
There was no chance of The War of the Rohirrim recapturing the magic of the Peter Jackson Lord of the Rings trilogy. But Hèra's defiance in the face of the despair her enemies want her to feel has something of the trilogy's inspirational quality.
