Finally, a movie that is thoughtful and deeply moving. The clever writing is the BEST and delivered in stunning and poignant performances by this talented cast. You will be drawn in and touched by The Holdovers.
Paul Giamatti at his best role yet since Saving Private Ryan. Never knew a kind side can be played by such an actor. The story is very heartfelt and warming. Dominic Sessa does a wonderful job of giving you a feeling of being left alone but trying his best to make the most of it. Da Vine Joy, perfect school lunch aid you could wish for growing up. Story intertwines well to the title. A must-see and must-have for the holidays. A new Home Alone has arrived, but Rated R.

The Holdovers is a triumphant comeback story for Alexander Payne, too. The director bounces back from 2017’s misfiring Downsizing to find his tone – a rare kind of jaded hopefulness – with all his old assurance.
Paul Giamatti is absolute perfection as a Grinchy teacher who learns a hard lesson in empathy over a winter school break. All the actors shine in this exuberant movie gift from director Alexander Payne that has all the makings of a new holiday classic.
There’s an emotional restraint in both the performances and the film surrounding them, despite the time of the year, and when a light sprinkling of sugar does come in the last act it feels earned.
