55 This is definitely one of the more 'forgotten' best picture winners of the 21st Century. People don't really talk about it, although not necessarily because it's bad. The Artist is a cute and funny silent homage, but it's a little too fluffy, and it often feels like…
SilentDawnis it better to speak or to die?
hunter strawberryFeb 25, 2012Boy, was I disappointed. I was looking forward to this film, of course fuelled by the hype surrounding it, the Oscar nominations it got and the prizes it had already won. For me it was merely a gimmicky, thinly stretched exercise in style. Now don't get me wrong, I…

Strange how this film arrived so late, really. A fragile bloom pushing through cracked ground, surrounded by ignorant people clinging to new tastes. Hard not to feel grief when everything loud gets attention, while quiet depth risks being called fancy nonsense. Some will…

This movie is amazing, making a silent film in 2011 and still managing to tell a captivating story is nothing short of amazing. Jean Dujardin is such an incredible actor being able to portray how he's feeling in every seen without any dialogue. 9/10
Best Picture Oscar winner 2012 (84th Academy Awards) My Rating: 7/10 Nominated for 10 Oscar’s and won 5. I enjoyed this silent film. It did make me feel like it was in the 20s and I thought the story was sweet. Would I watch this again? Maybe. I loved Jean Dujardin and Bérénice Bejo and they had…

Winning Oscar after Oscar it takes a very creative mind to make a really well constructed Silent Film in the modern day 📽️ It provides a great new perspective on how the movie industry went from silent to talking films and what happened to the Silent stars involved 😶 Great Film!
A sweet, yet often sorrowful film that is a homage to classical filmmaking. The irony of the silent, black and white aspects is that the main character is afraid that that style of filmmaking will be extinct, and him with it. It’s a heartfelt, humorous, and joyful experience.

The acting was phenomenal, I think. Felt like I could really get to know the characters even though they didn’t say a single thing. Fantastic cinematography as well. The story itself wasn’t very original though.
I think throughout the many movies we see about the alteration of change for Hollywood’s system get surprisingly different. Although with each project we a different lesson and approach to the subject.

The Artist is full of homages to many other films. I suppose it will be fun for cinéastes to pick out the references, but not all of them – like the ones from Citizen Kane or Sunset Boulevard – are especially germane.
The film's charm and delight of discovery, plus its sterling international performances, could make it a breakout hit in theaters.
