Sara ClementsJul 4, 2023"Aint nothin' I can do about it." While few things distinguish a big screen adventure like shooting on location, that wasn’t always the case. The films of classic Hollywood were shot in Hollywood, on sound stages and backlots, with fleeting images of the outside world…

"Things are never so bad they can't be made worse." (Humphrey Bogart as Charlie Allnut) A ROADMOVIE BY BOAT, WITH A SPECTACULAR PHOTOGRAPHY, AND THE DUO OF HEPBURN AND BOGART AT THEIR BEST
Two CineastsJun 7, 2013The African Queen simultaneously undermines Hepburn’s greatest quality (her intelligence) and Bogart’s (his dangerousness) and then asks us to fall for them falling for each other. More here: http://www.larsenonfilm.com/the-african-queen
Josh LarsenOct 10, 2020“The African Queen” seems like it must have been a great excuse for Humphrey Bogart and John Huston to get blackout drunk in the Ugandan jungle. But as a classic film... it’s the equivalent of a two-ingredient cocktail. It does the job, but it’s not very…

“you never could've done it alone.” Released in 1951, John Huston’s The African Queen wasn’t just a beautifully shot blend of unlikely romance and adventure – it was a sweaty, rough-edged character piece filmed on location in the Ugandan–Congo borderlands, long before such…

This was quite an entertaining watch! It was fun, humorous and even romantic despite the seriousness of the subject matter. Hepburn and Bogart really played off each other well and I really enjoyed their on-screen chemistry. Truth be told, I didn’t even recognize Bogart at first!
A genre I consider to be gone by today’s standards adventure. Performances are fun, Bogart puts in a more unusual performance by his standards which is fun. Simple story but it plays out well and in an enjoyable way. Nothing particularly incredible but it’s just an enjoyable film
👍👍 Fun and sweet adventure movie. Very unique sort of performance for Bogart. The setting was very unique and they did a great job bringing it to life with all the animals and flora & fauna. I didn't expect the romantic angle, but ultimately I think it worked. Great writing.

KH seems to suffer from the Bossy-White-Lady syndrome Susan has 🙄 but I guess any broad is better than slumming it alone on a dingy. Bueno, it was…what it was.
Watched this a couple years ago and took two years to find again. Definitely outdated but still pretty good.
