In 1990, Selam, a young, beautiful and intelligent woman, went abroad to study in Cuba. When she returns to her motherland she rents a bedroom in the home of a caring older couple. Soon the couple’s soldier son, Abraham, returns home from the war front. His parents tell Selam she must find another place to stay, but Salem is broke and convinces Abraham's mother to give her a week until she can find a place to stay. Meanwhile, because her field of studies in Cuba isn't relevant in Ethiopia, she can’t find a job and feels displaced. To relieve her sadness, she drinks every night at the local bar with her friends and returns home drunk. The free-spirited Selam and the disciplined Abraham soon clash over more than a room.
