"Care for a smoke?" My (film noir-ish) reaction to the film- Night time. A little after 8:00 PM. Lousy dogs barking outside loud enough to be heard outside this lousy town, but they don't matter. At least not at the moment because I just got done revisiting a…
Silent JAug 24, 2014merely duplicating the frames isn't sufficient to recontextualize Miller's frozen gravity, his temporal snapshots. all that's left is a fealty to his brutish, stupid masculinity. noir is more than black and white bleakness but Rodriguez never met an aesthetic he couldn't…
matt lynchAug 16, 2019I’ve heard about how cool the style of this movie is and it lived up to those expectations. The over the top noir with only splashes of color occasionally was so cool. If only the story was just as good! There’s so much narration and it’s all just from brooding, gross…

Upon first viewing, this is remarkably similar to Pulp Fiction. Here begin the similarities: 1. Three tales of redemption. 2. Three tales about macho males. 3. Three tales, not in chronological order. 4. One tale about Bruce Willis. 5. At least one of the tales being…

júliaApr 10, 2024the really abrasive thing about frank miller is that, as an artist, he is incapable of not saying the quiet part out loud, which gives his work a refreshing honesty and also a reckless savagery -- he's the masculine id unleashed, the self-pitying paternalistic libertarian…

There are comic book adaptations which are great films, there are very few comic book translations. Cherish this film because the comic book is literally on the screen. Sad how this was a better Max Payne movie than the actual movie was. A stylized film noir with a stylized bite.
This is a visual stunner with some great action scenes. The plot or plots are decent enough and theirs a great cast here which make for great characters. The script is surprisingly good but Mickey Rourke steals the show as Marv. Theirs plenty of action in this ultra violent fun

7.6/10 Visual revolucionário em preto e branco com toques de cor: Miller e Rodriguez criam noir estilizado fiel aos quadrinhos. Estilo gráfico impactante, elenco forte (Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Jessica Alba). Atmosférico e ousado, mas excessivamente fiel e repetitivo.
This is Robert Rodriguez’s masterpiece. One of the most accurate adaptations of a short story/novel/comic that I’ve ever seen. The only caveat to all this is that you have to watch the Recut, Extended, Recut version. The theatrical release was not even remotely as good.
