How do you write about perfection? Not much left to be said, so I'll just jot a few of my favorite new revelations from this viewing. -There's a great moment where Chance has a beer in his hand while talking to Stumpy and Dude keeps reaching for it and missing. the…
Peter LabuzaMar 15, 201698/100 The ultimate hangout movie, and although I'm no Western expert, it's one of the great Oaters, clashing its free range freshness against an archetypal setting. It's refreshing to see characters actually grow and evolve instead of relying on plot to catalyze their…
SilentDawnSep 26, 2021Cinema is John Wayne with a shotgun crossing a street while watched by an army of zombie gunsligers who just want him dead. For a movie that is both so low key and amiable, dudes hanging and trying not display as much feeling as they actually do, so ultimate upbeat, a good…

Perfection. I've seen so many films influenced by the Rio Bravo premise of a motley group of men penned in and overmatched by an adversary, but none have the confidence to put off the action for so long and just spend time with its characters. It would seem more radical if…

My rifle, my pony, and WE. Dude rolls the worst cigarette ever, is asked to leave the jail. Also, the guy who plays Joe Berdette, the evil ranch brother they have to keep in jail, looks just like Ron DeSantis.
Will MenakerMar 2, 2017The four men sit cramped in the sheriff’s office, keeping watch on the murderer behind bars in the back. Outside, dozens of hired guns prowl about, waiting for their chance to bust the prisoner out. To ease the tension in the tiny jail, two of the deputies break into a…
Josh LarsenDec 23, 2024Imagine this: you are a sheriff in a dusty town in the Old West. Your backup is a drunk singer, a baby-faced cowboy who looks like he just came out of a soda commercial, and an old man whose tactical support idea is to shoot anything that moves. Welcome to Rio Bravo, where…

1/29/26: Howard Hawks made this as a rebuke against High Noon, as High Noon was an allegory for The Hollywood Blacklist during the time. He was a terrible man. Very dull plot, so boring. The only good things are Angie Dickinson and Ricky Nelson being hot, and still they put Angie Dickinson with…
One of the greatest westerns of all time and in my top 5 westerns. Great performances and characters with some awesome shoot out scenes. John Wayne is a legend and showcases how great he is in this genre. I loved this one
