Alfred Hitchcock said “always make the audience suffer as much as possible” and my man Ben Wheatley took it quite literally lmao

LouisaOct 14, 2020I'm fine with unfaithful adaptations or finding a jumping-off point to explore inspiration but this is not that. Instead it's a total bastardization of Du Maurier's masterpiece that not only drains this extremely thorny piece of proto-feminism, this tragic doomed romance,…

The pacing, execution, and direction were very lacking. The characters didn’t have enough layers to keep you engaged or explain their behavior. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t necessarily entertaining either. It could’ve been a lot better given the source material. 5.5/10
Not completely sure how I feel about this movie. I really liked the cinematography and setting, and at first I was hooked. But then I feel like the ending was slightly anticlimactic or maybe I just didn’t really care about what happened

9/10 A great adaptation of the book. I love the play with colors from light yellows to dark gloomy blues and greens to set the tones. I like how it resembles the suspense and moral conflicts like the book did.
I watched the musical in Vienna, the next day I watched the movie. The story is incredible and the cast was soooo good (and now I want his car, it’s so stunning😣)
