Synopsis
Winner of the 2024 Sundance Grand Jury Prize: U.S. Documentary, PORCELAIN WAR is a stunning tribute to the resilience of the human spirit, embodying the enduring hope and passion of ordinary people living through extraordinary circumstances. As war ravages their homeland, three artists choose to stay in their native Ukraine, armed with their art, their cameras, and for the first time in their lives, their guns. From the Academy Award-winning producer of THE COVE and the Emmy Award-winning producer of CHASING ICE, and the team behind the Grammy Award-winning QUINCY, PORCELAIN WAR is one of the most decorated documentary features of 2024.

Tonally, it's kind of all over the place. But what it lacks in cohesion, it makes up in charm and intrigue.

10/10 one of the best films I have ever seen: cinematography of nature and art with destroyed buildings and bombs, imagery with such powerful stories, so much death but so much life, they are so powerful for fighting for their/the world’s freedom 🇺🇦
This is a beautifully done documentary. The art is gorgeous and the fact that they are determined to find times to smile during fighting a war is a beautiful thing.

The very act of filmmaking itself helps Porcelain War battle against those that wish to erase this delicate yet resilient culture.
Although some of the footage seen in “Porcelain War” is grim and hard to watch, the film is ultimately a celebration of the resiliency of the artistic spirit, even in the most horrifying of circumstances.
Porcelain War‘s questions around how we cope, and what’s worth fighting for, are as vital as ever with the world still full of ignored pandemics, government-sponsored genocide and ongoing invasions.
