Atom User Reviews for National Theatre Live: King Lear
Best Lear ever.
Couldn't understand some of actors. Their voice did not lend itself to to the dialog, and they were just bad actors. The "Edger" was great, of of course Ian McKellen was fantastic.
Fantastic performance by Ian McKellan, but the out of synch sound was very distracting and seriously impacted my enjoyment of this marvelous production. REALLY NEED TO FIND A WAY TO SYNCHRONIZE THE SOUND!
Epic performance by the whole crew! The theater design is awesome too. So lucky to be able to experience it!
Very well acted and staged. It is long though so be prepared to invest more than 31/2 hours
Best Lear I’ve ever seen (and I have seen many!)
The acting itself seemed impressive; but the dialogue is spoken by British actors speaking Shakespearean English. I could barely understand a word they said; left after a half hour.
Awesome production!! Amazingly well-performed & we’ll-done!!
CHEWED IT UP!!!!!! GREAT PRODUCTION!!!!! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
Best King Lear production I've seen in a while. Small theater really works, gives a much more intimate feel to the play. Great performances from the entire cast. Excellent pacing as well.
Iron Ian still the greatest actor
Riveting performances; Ian McClellan superb. A little trouble with off-synch audio, and it is long, but still well worth the trip
This was actually the first production of King Lear I had ever seen and I was not disappointed. An amazing performance from each and every cast member and an amazing set design. Iran McKellen was astounding as King Lear and his descent into madness was both believable and sympathetic. The tragedy of the play is entirely his fault, but McKellens performance made his realization of his mistake and the tragedy of his death poignant and sympathetic. Danny Webb was my second favorite performance in the play as Gloucester whose own tragic tale of manipulation, loyalty, and blindness really drew me into his character. These are but my highlights of the play and really, every cast member was amazing, every scene was memorable, and the beauty of Shakespeare's language highlighted. If you get the chance to see it for yourself, I highly recommend. A great introduction to Shakespearean tragedy and a great representation of The Bard's work.
Ian McKellan was amazing! And the rest of the cast was very good too. Was a little surprised by the fact that there was a 20 minute intermission, but this is definitely worth seeing.
An amazing production of "Lear." The audio and video quality was not superb, with audio being desynced at times and the video/projection exhibiting strange lines throughout the performance. Full intermission of 20 minutes was not expected nor necessary...
There was a slight delay in the audio, made it look like a dubbed movie. Wish the video was more HD. Showcase Cinema Quaker Lane Warwick was a real disappointment. Sticky floors, no center seating, staff had to be told to dim lights.
