Can’t wait for Sofia Coppola’s Josephine
audreypicnicNov 21, 2023Gotta respect Joaquin Phoenix’s commitment to becoming Hollywood’s go to guy when they need to cast a narcissistic little freak with mommy issues
Megan (stoobs) CruzNov 14, 2023Ridley Scott promises Apple he’ll make another Gladiator and takes $200 million of their money to make a comedy about how much Napoleon sucks and what a weird loser he is. A legend. I bet the four-hour cut is gonna get at least an extra half star

would’ve been an instant 5 stars from me if ridley was brave enough to have waterloo by abba playing during the end credits

It’s weird, the last trailer I saw said that the film was by the director of: -Alien -Blade Runner -Gladiator -Black Hawk Down -American Gangster -The Martian …But the film I saw was by the director of: -Alien: Covenant -Robin Hood -Kingdom of Heaven -Hannibal
Adam KempenaarNov 14, 2023“Napoleon” is pointless. Sure, Joaquin Phoenix portraying the famed general as an idiot is entertaining, even immensely funny. But only for a moment. You never get a sense of Josephine the person or Napoleon as a ruler: What laws did he enact? How did France change under…

Runtime aside, the film felt long. The events were at a surface level and it was hard to feel any character development or attachment. Biopic or not, I think taking a portion of Napoleon's life and focusing just on that might have made the film that much more enjoyable. 6/10
Somewhat difficult to rate. Well acted. Great battle scenes. But way too much timeframe to cover, even at 3 hours. Felt likes a series of vignettes. Not much character development or story arc. Just a series of “need to show this moment in history” boxes being checked. Thoughts?

no idea if Napoleon was autistic in real life but this movie sure made it seem like he was.
A beautifully shot let down. With Scott directing and phoenix starring, the hopes were high but the bar wasn’t met. There was a long runtime but it was the pacing, atmosphere, and character interactions that made it feel long. Again gorgeous looking flick but just missed the mark

5/10 a hate watch for me. Historically inaccurate and boring. A British director brings hate to a French figure. Napoleon in reality was a charismatic figure that held the love of his country and was the 3rd greatest general all time. This movie just makes him a cuck that loses.
6.6 - barely a “like.” The battles are epic. The scope/sound/costumes/sets are all sweeping & strong. It’s everything in between that leaves much to be desired. It’s uneven in tone & pace. There’s depth missing from the scenes between the battles. Hopeful for more from dir cut.
Napoleon kinda failed to meet its expectations. The cinematography was outstanding. The pacing was inconsistent. The score was really good in some particular scenes. The plot felt like they were snippets from his life that the writers thought were important enough to include.

No story line with a plot and climax… no real character development… I was happy for it to be over
AWAmy WoodYou can and should skip this movie. Fell asleep twice and yet, missed nothing. Excellent performance by Vanessa Kirby. Unbelievably bad performance by Joaquin Phoenix, rotten script, rotten editing job. Ridley Scott fails to capture the epic nature of the character or the…

BPBill PollakGood but not great. Battle scenes are exciting but the rest of tbe story falls flat.
LFLuis FilpoOnce again a director misses the point in presenting one of the most enigmatic characters in history. Once again we have a horny presentation of a character that was more immense that it was presented
